What is culture change, and how can YOU execute this correctly? Let’s get straight to the point. A culture change in a business is like remodeling a house. You're not just changing the furniture; you're altering the whole vibe. It's about shifting how people think, act, and work together, creating a new atmosphere that reflects different values and priorities. But how do you make this happen? First, you need to understand how people learn. Then you must understand how people unlearn. But how do you start figuring this out? Simple… You look at yourself. How did you learn certain things, and how did you unlearn certain things? But, to speed up the process. I will share with you the 3 primary ways how people learn. Primary way #1: Verbal Programming Primary way #2: Modeling Primary way #3: Specific Incidents These are the 3 primary ways how people learn. Let’s cover each of them in more depth! Primary way #1: Verbal Programming Verbal programming means that people learn from the things they hear. Let’s look at an example from when you were a little kid. Have you ever heard things like “Don’t touch that”, “That’s dangerous!” and the infamous one “Don’t interfere when grown-ups are talking!”? If you’ve ever heard these expressions, they were all programmed in your subconscious mind. So the next time when you want to say something or do something. A little voice comes in your head and says “Hey, don’t do that! Don’t you remember what happened the last time?” Eventually, this will influence what you're about to do and change your behavior. This is what we call verbal programming. It’s the same with your business and your employees. You need to ask yourself this question: “What do my employees hear when I’m speaking, or just any individual that could have an impact on their mindset?” What do they hear? Do they hear expressions like: “Do as the company says it should be done” or something more like “We’ve been doing this for years, so we will continue doing it that way”? These may seem like innocent expressions, but in reality… they are very dangerous and harmful. So, what is the solution? The solution for this is simple. Watch your mouth when speaking with people. Not only with your employees, but also with your children, wife, family, and friends. How people act and react around you, is partially a reflection of your own attitude that you have toward them. Be the change you want to see in people and sooner or later you’ll notice a change in their behavior too. Now… I know that you would like to hear an explanation for the other primary ways how people learn and how you can use them to better yourself and the people around you.
