On 3 December, we held a panel discussion titled „Path to Europe: Civil Society Leadership in Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine” hosted by MEP Lena Schilling @lena.ats, the Greens/FPA. We were joined by Marta Barandiy, Ph.D. LL.M. Eur. from Promote Ukraine, Thornike Gordadze from Research Institute Gnomon Wise (Georgia), and Diana Hincu from the EU Diaspora Facility. The discussion was moderated by Chris Powers (Euractiv). 🇪🇺 MEP Lena Schilling stated that the Georgian protests show that civil society and grassroots movements are the backbone of democracy and an unbeatable force when united. Civil society in Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova must join forces to fight against autocrats within Europe and in candidate countries. 🇬🇪 Tornike Gordadze stated that the protesting Georgian society needs the EU’s strong political support and immediate, tangible assistance to empower grassroots movements that mobilize the population to defend Georgia’s EU path. 🇺🇦 Marta Barandiy referred to the larger public: “Dear EU friends, do you know many Europeans willing to fight and die for their country’s EU path and the values it represents? What Georgians are doing today mirrors, with its similarities and differencies, what Ukrainians did 11 years ago. They deserve not only admiration but also active EU support.” 🇲🇩 Diana Hincu highlighted the role of the diaspora in safeguarding the country’s EU path during elections. The mobilization of Georgian, Ukrainian, and Moldovan diasporas is crucial to preserving their EU aspirations. Diaspora members can effectively inform and advocate towards the EU policymakers in their countries. In the context of the ongoing processes in #Georgia, #Moldova, and #Ukraine, joint advocacy and initiative remains more relevant than ever.

"Despite the common perception that good deeds don’t need publicity, in 10 years of activism, I learned that it is immensely important to spread the message of what you do. This way, you can be supported in a better way; consequently, your work becomes more meaningful, and its results reach more people. Therefore, I am always grateful for the media's attention to the Ukrainian cause! This year, Promote Ukraine has been mentioned in the European and Ukrainian media more than 60 times. Last week, probably the biggest German channel, ZDF, made a video on our work. I published it on my page a few days ago. Next to the video, ZDF published an article with more explanations and details. Johanna, the journalist and her team, came to us several times in two days to shadow us and record what we did. We did not make up any extra activities for the reportage: we just followed our ordinary working schedule: our Monday demonstration near the Russian Mission to the EU, advocacy meeting with an MEP, and taking care of the Christmas chalet. We were also preparing the screening of the film “Bucha”, that had to happen the day after but the article had to be published before, so we could not show this effort to our German friends. Nevertheless, we managed to get the producer connected to the Euronews channel, and hopefully, next week, you will be able to watch his interview there. I am glad that we can be that bridge builder not only for politics and activism but also for communication to the world." Marta Barandiy, Ph.D. LL.M. Eur. https://lnkd.in/eAaDW3A4
