Join For Water is the Belgian water NGO. We guarantee water for people and nature alike, today and tomorrow. Join us!
About us
Join For Water guarantees water for people and nature alike, today and tomorrow. We operate in 9 countries, together with various different partners. We tackle challenges at the source: resilient freshwater ecosystems form the basis for the right to water. We depend on them, for our drinking water, water for agriculture and food. Furthermore, they also offer protection against floods and droughts. Sustainable access to water is not guaranteed everywhere. Those who do not have access to water do not find a way out of poverty. Whoever has clean water can go to school, be healthier and earn a better living. The deterioration of water-rich ecosystems is a major cause for the lack of water. Deforestation leads to drying up of the soil, swamps are drained, pollution reduces the water quality. Climate change also brings nature out of balance, which results in a global water crisis. Moreover, rich countries, through their enormous consumption, are seizing freshwater resources, including in low-income countries. Together with partners in Africa, Latin America and Belgium, we are working towards solutions. We protect and strengthen endangered ecosystems, we give access to water, we learn from each other, we influence government policy surrounding water and create awareness among the public as well as businesses. Everyone has the right to water. Join us!

Amongst many other successes, we’ve celebrated strong financials delivery, market share growth on 4 of our top brands, great achievement of our supply KPIs, and amazing engagement of our colleagues throughout a challenging & transformation year. But what would be celebration without giving it back to others? Thanks to our partner Join For Water, this year we finally found a Christmas gift that makes a difference. While each one of our colleagues can enjoy the surprise of a nice “Burundi Moment” Herbal Tea bag, families and health centers from Bubanza & Isare in Burundi can enjoy improved access to drinking water. A wonderful useful & engaged gift idea that we are super happy to support. Do the right thing, always. 💧 “We’ve waited years for this” – Clean water transforms lives in Kitagwenda 🌍 More than 5,000 residents in Kitagwenda District, Uganda, now have access to clean, safe water thanks to a collaborative effort by Join For Water, Serengeti Energy, Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE) and local authorities. It not only reduces the burden on women and girls who walked miles for water, but it also improves health by lowering risks of waterborne diseases. As Mr. Twesigye Ben, Chairperson of Local Council 1, said: “We’ve waited years for this, and we’re deeply thankful to Join For Water For Water, Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE) and Serengeti Energy for making it happen.” Together, we’ve built more than water infrastructure—we’ve built hope and resilience for the future, with sustainability and environmental protection at the heart of this project. 📖 Discover the story behind this milestone: https://lnkd.in/evvAnW6B #JoinForWater #JoinForWaterUganda #CleanWater #CommunityImpact #Sustainability #WASH #Partnerships

🌍 Tackling Climate Challenges in Mali: Citizen Science for Resilient Agriculture 💧 In Mali, where 60% of the workforce depends on agriculture, this vital sector contributes 30% to the economy but faces severe climate change impacts. Reduced rainfall and increased evaporation have caused yields to drop by 15–19%, making irrigation a crucial solution. Join For Water Mali and partners have officially launched the project: "Citizen Science for Climate-Resilient Agricultural Water Management" (FICAP). With support from the Government of Flanders, the project combines local knowledge and scientific research to: ✔️ Train 500 farmers in climate-resilient practices. ✔️ Develop advanced water monitoring systems in five regions. ✔️ Protect and restore agro-ecosystems and biodiversity. This initiative strengthens the resilience of farmers while addressing ecosystem degradation and economic challenges. Together, we’re building a sustainable future for agriculture in Mali. 🌱 👉 Learn more about the project: https://ow.ly/mlPl50U8UAW Coordinators of the programme: Departement Omgeving G-STIC: Global Sustainable Technology & Innovation Community Partners: IPR/IFRA en ONG CSPEEDA #JoinForWater #ClimateAction #ClimateActionProgramme #FICAP #SustainableAgriculture #Resilience #Ecosystems

Is Join For Water just a small shrimp with little influence at a massive and complex climate conference? 💬 Far from it. A shrimp might struggle to move on its own, but we see ourselves more as a fish—not large, but agile and determined, charting our own course. And when needed, we swim against the current. 🌊 In concrete terms, this means that we are actively present at so-called side events that take place near the official negotiations. The negotiators, or their staff, also come here to get their light, or come to tell something themselves. 🌍 💧We listen, ask questions, sometimes take a role ourselves. Above all, we bring in the perspective of our local partners. For example, together with Tropenbos RDC, we explained how working with local communities around forest and water, contributes to the NDCs, which are the efforts each country makes around climate action. 🌱 That is our way of influencing policy at this COP29, in between the activists and the official negotiators. #ClimateAction #COP29 #JoinForWater #WaterAndClimate #CommunityForestry #LocallyLedAdaptation #NatureBasedSolutions #JoinForWater #ResilientCommunities #TropenbosRDC #NDCs

Bart Dewaele, Director of Join For Water, and Vanessa, Communication and Development Advisor for the Africa region, are at COP29 in Baku to advocate for increased support for countries bearing the brunt of climate change. At the conference, they hope to strengthen agreements to better protect our partner countries from the devastating effects of droughts and floods. #COP29 #JoinForWater #WaterForAll
#COP29 #VIKAP #JoinForWater #WaterCrisis #LossDamage #VanessaOThompson #Baku
