Applied Ventures, the venture arm of Applied Materials, Inc., has announced the selection of six startups for the fifth cohort of its Applied Startup Technology & Research Accelerator (ASTRA) program, aimed at fostering innovation in deep-tech fields. This year’s selected startups—Augmentus, CloudSEK, CynLr, Distil, Syenta, and XYMA Analytics —are based in India, Singapore, and Australia, covering domains such as robotics, cybersecurity, supply chain management, materials, and sensors. Chosen from over 60 applicants, these startups presented their innovative solutions to Applied Materials leaders and venture capital partners. The ASTRA 2024 program targeted advancements in generative AI, semiconductor and display technologies, and robotics. Evaluation criteria included the startups' solution uniqueness, growth potential, and alignment with Applied Materials' strategic objectives. Om Nalamasu, CTO of Applied Materials and President of Applied Ventures, highlighted the startups' potential to drive transformative industry changes. He emphasized the role of ASTRA in supporting the creativity and technical expertise needed to push materials engineering forward.
