Schools - what steps have you taken with auditing your environments and support structures for neurodivergent students? PTAs and other parent groups - have you spoken to your child's school? Too many schools in recent years have been caught with substandard education or support for students, to the point where they've made the media: https://lnkd.in/gkt5Dkpx https://lnkd.in/gx6Db4Rx https://lnkd.in/gcCDsXzy https://lnkd.in/ghj-MCE2 https://lnkd.in/gm2s5VBD Various schools have been caught refusing to accept neurodivergent students, or shutting them into enclosures. Others have classrooms which are overwhelming from a sensory perspective. And in most cases, parents don't get to hear about these problems. These practices and environments can be nipped in the bud with a neurodivergence environment/process assessment. When was the last time your school ran a check? #InclusionMatters #Neurodivergence #NeurodiversityInclusion #dei #diversity #diversityequityinclusion #neurodiversity #neurodiversityawareness #neurodiversityinclusion #neuroinclusion #accessibilityaudit #education #australia #neurodiversityineducation #autisticstudents #pta #educators

Are neurodiverse students' mindsets and approaches being incorporated into what's considered acceptable social behaviour? Are non-ND students being assisted to learn about ND mindsets, communication, sociality, collaborative styles, and leadership? The Personal and Social Capability aspect of the Australian Curriculum (<https://lnkd.in/gpzqBMuf>) states: "This element involves students recognising others’ feelings and knowing how and when to assist others. Students learn to show respect for and understand others’ perspectives, emotional states and needs. They learn to participate in positive, safe and respectful relationships, defining and accepting individual and group roles and responsibilities. Students gain an understanding of the role of advocacy in contemporary society and build their capacity to critique societal constructs and forms of discrimination, such as racism and sexism. In developing and acting with personal and social capability, students: - appreciate diverse perspectives - contribute to civil society - understand relationships." The question then becomes whether students are being taught to understand and respect the different perspectives of their classmates, or whether they're just being taught to 'understand and respect' society as it stands, with little wiggle room around the edges for anyone not marching to its drum. There have already been a number of incidents where schools were blasted in the news for their... shall we say, 'unfortunate' handling of autistic students. Perhaps there was an opportunity there for the schools to do a little appreciating of diverse perspectives and learning about respectful relationships? The information for doing so is absolutely out there, and easier to access than ever. Hopefully there will be fewer incidents going forward. #InclusionMatters #InclusiveLeadership #Neurodivergence #NeurodiversityInclusion #dei #diversity #diversityequityinclusion #neurodiversity #neurodiversityawareness #neurodiversityineducation #neurodiversityinclusion #neuroinclusion #australianschools #australianeducation #education

Unlocking Innovation: The Neurodiverse Edge Imagine a team where every brain thinks differently. That's not just diversity; that's neurodiversity. And it could be your company's secret weapon. Neurodiversity encompasses a range of neurological differences, from ADHD and autism to dyslexia and beyond. Traditionally, these were seen as barriers to employment. But here's the twist: these 'barriers' can actually be powerful catalysts for innovation. Consider this: neurodiverse individuals often excel in pattern recognition, problem-solving, and creativity. They bring unique perspectives that can challenge conventional thinking, leading to breakthrough ideas and solutions. But how? 1. **Diverse Thinking**: Neurodiverse teams approach problems from angles unseen by neurotypical minds, unveiling solutions that were previously off the radar. 2. **Resilience and Adaptability**: Facing a world not designed for their neurological makeup, many neurodiverse individuals develop remarkable resilience and adaptability, qualities that are gold in the fast-paced corporate world. 3. **Attention to Detail**: Certain neurodiverse conditions, like autism, can enhance an individual's ability to focus intensely on specific tasks, leading to higher-quality outcomes in technical or detailed-oriented projects. Yet, harnessing this potential requires more than just hiring neurodiverse talent. It demands creating an inclusive environment where different ways of thinking are valued and nurtured. So, how can your company start? - Implement flexible working conditions to accommodate different needs. - Provide training for all staff on neurodiversity to foster understanding and support. - Encourage open dialogue that allows neurodiverse employees to share what accommodations or adjustments they need to thrive. Embracing neurodiversity isn't just about doing the right thing; it's about giving your company a competitive edge in innovation. Ready to tap into the untapped? Consider how your hiring and workplace practices can become more inclusive of neurodiverse talent. Let's innovate, together. Engage below if you believe in the power of neurodiversity to transform our workplaces and our world.
