For generations, Mooroopna Kindergarten in the Shepparton area has given children from First Nations families and other culturally diverse backgrounds a safe place to play, learn, and connect with their cultures. Severe floods destroyed the kindy in 2022, but now thanks to 54 reasons, part of the Save the Children Australia group, and the generosity of our supporters, Mooroopna Kindergarten is back with a bigger and better playground. Our thanks to our friends at GBLA Landscape Architects, Lark Industries, Moose Toys Happy Kids Foundation, and Margot Melzak who helped realise our vision for a new playground with a range of safe and engaging activities for children. When Typhoon Rai severely damaged Elizabeth’s home, one of the items that survived the storm was a Christmas tree. She kept it up as a symbol of hope for her family as they carried on. This Christmas, we send our love to Elizabeth and her family in the Philippines as well as our friends in Australia and all around the world. We wish you strength, happiness, and hope for whatever lies ahead. 🎄Happy Holidays from all of us to all of you. 🌏 #HappyHolidays #MerryChristmas #HappyNewYear

As political, economic and climate crises escalate around the world, are we in danger of being swallowed up by disaster? How can we come together to make meaningful change and lead the way through the dangers facing us? These are some of the questions the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership at Deakin University hopes to answer at the 2025 Humanitarian Leadership Conference, which will be held online and in Doha, Qatar in April 2025. We need a diverse group of leaders willing to offer new and insightful analyses, take risks, and lead the way to real positive change. So, if you have research, insights, or other innovative ventures in taking on the world's crises, we want to hear from you. Click the link below to find out how you can sign up to be a presenter at our conference. The deadline for submissions is 6 January. https://lnkd.in/grWuKmqx

"Nowhere has been more devastating for children than the occupied Palestinian territory. According to the United Nations, nearly 70 per cent of those killed in Gaza have been children and women. #Gaza is now home to the largest cohort of child amputees in modern history. Let that statistic sink in. As the year comes to a close and you prepare to celebrate the Christmas holidays with loved ones, I urge you to reflect on the state of the world a century after the Geneva Declaration. Ask yourself: where have we gone wrong, and what must we do to put the world back on the right track for children?" Save the Children Australia CEO Mat Tinkler in an op-ed for news.com.au
Some thoughts as we head into this time of reflection.

Ahmed* was treated for severe acute malnutrition and tuberculosis at a stabilisation centre supported by Save the Children. Shortly afterwards, he was treated again for a respiratory infection. Save the Children’s health workers were able to stabilise Ahmed’s condition and get him to a Mother and Child Health Centre where they are giving him life-saving peanut paste and monitoring him while he recovers. His sister Kaltun*, 9, hopes he’ll fully recover soon so she can hold him and play with him again. Hunger has no place in a child’s life. Your support can help save the lives of children like Ahmed* all over the world. Donate here to help make a difference. https://bit.ly/3DqTm2c

6 months ago, Abdi’s* sister thought he would die. Now, he’s happily playing with her again. Severe droughts in Somaliland caused a loss of livestock and a food shortage that left Abdi’s family struggling to manage with only 2 meals a day. Save the Children offered a lifeline as Abdi got his health and energy back.

It’s been almost 2 years since violent conflict in Sudan’s capital began displacing families like Salha’s*. She and her children were trapped in their apartment building for seven days without food or water before they fled to a shelter in a school, which they had to share with about 100 other families. Save the Children helped Salha’s family find an improved shelter unit at a nearby settlement, where they now have a degree of privacy, safety, and community. The children have community-based child protection and safe spaces to play and learn. Every child deserves a safe and supportive childhood. When there’s a crisis, we help families do what’s best for their children. Your support can help keep our efforts going strong.
