  • RESEARCHERS NAMED AMONG AUSTRALIA'S BEST | In a sign of the expertise across Northern Sydney Local Health District and the Kolling Institute, a group of clinicians has been named in The Australian's 2025 research magazine’s top 250 researchers. Launched in 2018, the annual feature names the top performers in 250 fields across eight disciplines. These include health and medical sciences, business and engineering. Using big-data, the profile offers information about the top researcher and top university in each field. It is based on an analysis of the quality and impact of the research. The feature is a valuable showcase of Australian research, demonstrating its importance to the wider community through improvements to health, wellbeing, the environment and the economy. Three NSLHD clinician researchers are included in this year's group including world-renowned pathologist and researcher Professor Anthony Gill and Professor Michael Nicholas, who has dedicated his career to pain management, education and research. For the second year in a row, NSLHD Executive Director of Research and Royal North Shore Hospital Intensive Care Unit clinician A/Professor A/Prof Naomi Hammond has been named in the critical care category. We would like to congratulate Anthony, Michael and Naomi on this remarkable accolade.

  • HONOURING REMARKABLE NSLHD CLINICIANS❤ Two distinguished clinicians whose careers have spanned decades at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) have been acknowledged on the NSLHD Board’s Honour Roll. Dr Russell Vandenberg and nurse Jacqueline Hextall were recognised for their achievement at this year’s Annual Public Meeting. Dr Vandenberg’s remarkable career at RNSH spanned over five decades, leaving an indelible mark on patient care, medical research, and education. Starting in 1959 as a senior registered medical officer, Dr Vandenberg’s journey was punctuated by a prestigious fellowship at the Mayo Clinic from 1964 to 1968 before returning to RNSH as a respiratory physician, a role he held until his retirement in 2011. Dr Vandenberg was a pioneer in respiratory medicine, contributing significantly to the development of respiratory services at RNSH in the 1970s and 1980s. Also honoured was Jacqueline, affectionately known as Jacque, who has been a cornerstone of RNSH’s nursing community, with an extraordinary 40-year career dedicated to excellence in patient care and leadership. Starting her journey, at RNSH, in 1984, as a student nurse, Jacque’s passion for surgical nursing and holistic patient care has shaped the careers of countless clinicians and transformed the care provided on the ward where she serves as nursing unit manager.

  • Fifteen years ago, when Professor Tom Eade joined Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) as a radiation oncologist, he envisioned a robust system for collecting patient data to drive cancer research. Today, that vision is a reality. RNSH’s radiation oncology department uses cutting-edge data systems to run real-time audits, improve patient outcomes, and design pioneering clinical trials. With studies ranging from prostate and breast cancer treatments to palliative radiation, the team’s work is shaped by patient-reported outcomes and insights from long-term follow-ups. By combining advanced technology, data-driven insights, and patient-centered research, RNSH is transforming the future of cancer care. #CancerResearch #RadiationOncology #Clinical trials Read more: https://lnkd.in/gH9CSMsD
