During the festive peak of 20 December to 6 January, we expect to welcome more than 184,000 thousand travellers to our airport - an increase of 11,000 travellers compared to last year. Hobart Airport CEO Norris Carter reminds travellers that the airport may look a little bit different this year, with the $130 million runway upgrades and the airport’s investment of $200 million in the terminal expansion. “We’re doing everything we can to make sure your holidays get off to a good start, with extra staff and volunteers on board to help wherever we can." “We will also have performers to share the Christmas spirit including musicians and children’s entertainer Mrs Bee, plus a Ho-Ho-Hobart colouring competition with a Lego prize for the kids." “There are some really simple things that all travellers can do too to ensure a stress-free start to their holiday; prepare for lines, arrive ahead of time and stay kind." On behalf of all of us at Hobart Airport, we wish everyone safe travels these holidays. #HobartAirportUpgrade #Christmas #ChristmasTravel

About us
Hobart Airport Upgrade. Making tomorrow’s Tasmania possible. Operated by Hobart International Airport Pty Ltd (HIAPL), Hobart Airport is the ninth busiest airport in Australia. A critical piece of State infrastructure, Hobart Airport is the principal aviation gateway to the city of Hobart and the southern Tasmanian region. The airport has operated on the same site for nearly 60 years and is strategically located to serve many of the fastest growing residential areas in Tasmania and the greater Hobart area. The airport is a key economic hub for Tasmania and a site of employment for more than 700 full time staff. During the past five years, Hobart Airport has experienced one of the highest growth rates by any airport not supporting mining operations and in 2014 the Airport delivered a direct and indirect economic contribution to the State of Tasmania of $142.5M. It is forecast that by 2035 this contribution will increase to more than 1,000 full time jobs and an economic contribution to the State in excess of $220 million. Hobart is also Australia’s Antarctic ‘Gateway’ and a global Gateway to the East Antarctic. Hobart is the location of the world’s largest single concentration of Antarctic and Southern Ocean research, as well as co-located logistics operations. Hobart Airport is the base for the Australian Antarctic Division’s aviation operations.

The festive season is in full flight with increased flights to get our loved ones home this Christmas. This will mean the airport will be busier than usual and with the airport upgrade underway, things might look a bit different. Be sure to arrive earlier than usual and give yourself plenty of time to park, check in and get through security to your gate. A little extra patience will help everyone stay in the festive spirit, airport wide. Be kind and fly right. #HobartAirport #HobartAirportUpgrade #ChristmasTravel

✈️ Hobart Airport is (literally) paving the way 🚜 We were thrilled to host Anita Dow MP and Janie Finlay MP at Hobart Airport this week to showcase our once-in-a-generation infrastructure upgrade. Hobart Airport is investing $270 million to transform our airfield and terminal into an aviation hub to serve the community and visitors for decades to come. This is alongside $60 million in Australian government funding towards our airfield upgrade. A huge thank you to Anita and Janie for taking the time to visit and see firsthand the newly strengthened pavement at the northern end of the runway. Hobart Airport’s investment is a testament to our commitment to connecting communities, creating jobs and boosting Tasmania's economy. #HobartAirport #InfrastructureUpgrade #PublicPrivatePartnership #Tasmania #AirportDevelopment #InvestmentInTasmania #FutureReady

Yesterday, we were thrilled to host Shadow Minister for Transport Meg Brown MP and Shadow Minister for Finance Luke Edmunds MLC at our airport for a tour of our ongoing infrastructure projects. With over $330 million in capital works underway, it's exciting to showcase the scale of the transformation happening on-site. Our $200 million terminal upgrade alone has brought an additional 180 workers to join the 600 team members who are typically on-site each day. We also took a trip out onto the runway to check out the progress on our airfield upgrade, set for completion by mid-2025. It’s always a great to highlight the incredible work our team is doing to keep the airport running smoothly while we refurbish 90% of our airfield pavements and double the size of our terminal. Big things are on the horizon! #Infrastructure #AirportDevelopment #CapitalWorks #Tasmania

That’s a wrap on Worksafe month! We’ve had a jam-packed month of safety activities including a bumper week with Airport Safety Week too. This year we have acknowledged the collaborative efforts of working alongside our precinct partners and our development project partners as we embark on $330 million of development, while keeping Tasmania’s gateway operating throughout. Safety is everyone’s business, no matter what role you play or what brings you to the airport, we all deserve to reach our destination safely. So, what did we get up to? 🚌 Runway bus tours for our precinct teams to check out the worksites that are part of the airfield upgrade (thanks Downer!) 🚶♀️ Downer organised a FOD walk to clean up and pick up debris from the airfield that can pose a risk to aircraft. 🏏 Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania spoke to the precinct about keeping your mind and body safe in a high pressure environment 🛬 Our kids activation was a hit with our smallest travellers in Depatures who learned how to park a plane safely 🎬 The WorkSafe Tasmania team joined us to help launch our latest Safety Week video – check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gi2RHmpB 🍔 Whole of precinct and construction team BBQ Hutchinson Builders Luke Moore Moore Civil Contracting Australian Airports Association

The Tasmanian Export Awards are a great opportunity to hear from the (often very quiet) global exporters in our state, and this year was no exception. Hobart Airport was the sponsor of the International Education Exporter Award in recognition of the value these students bring to Tasmania. International students shop in our local businesses, staff our regional tourism hotspots and bring their families to visit our state. Congratulations to The Hutchins School who were recognised as our state’s best education exporter. Ganga F. was there to accept the award on behalf of the school’s international program.
