  • During the 16 Days of Activism Campaign to Stop Violence Against Women, our people generously donated toiletries and baby products to women and children experiencing homelessness or seeking refuge from domestic violence. These essential items have been donated to shelters such as The Salvation Army Australia, Graceville Centre and Karratha Women’s Refuge, where many women arrive with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Special thanks to our branch network from Joondalup down to Bunbury for their generosity. At HBF Health, we are committed to supporting our community and making a positive impact on the lives of those in need. By providing these basic necessities, we hope to bring comfort and relief to those facing difficult times. Together, we can make a difference. #HBF #TheSalvationArmy #Anglicare #CommunitySupport

  • 🦷New HBF Dental centre opening in Midland! We're excited to announce the opening of our ninth HBF Dental centre. It comes as member claims data from FY24 indicates less routine dental care in and around Midland in Perth’s eastern suburbs, with HBF members accessing fewer dental services than the WA state average, including preventive scale and clean services being 13% lower. "Based on HBF claims data, it appears HBF members in and around Midland are going to the dentist less often," said Dr Troy McGowan, Executive General Manager Clinical Excellence for HBF Dental. “Our new Midland centre is designed to offer convenient care by making it easier for local residents to get dental treatments - from routine check-ups to preventative care. Eligible HBF members can also take advantage of an annual no-gap check-up and clean.” HBF Dental provided over 59,000 appointments to HBF members and other patients across its eight existing centres, with around 20,000 eligible HBF members taking up the popular no-gap check-up and clean offer. • At HBF, building a cyber-resilient culture is essential to maintaining our members' trust in how we protect their private information. Whether at work or home, cybersecurity is everyone's responsibility. In today’s ever-evolving threat landscape, it's crucial that we foster a strong cyber security culture here at HBF. We all play a part in safeguarding our data from prying eyes. Our Cyber Team has been working tirelessly to engage staff with educational opportunities, including presentations on critical topics like "Dodging Deepfakes" and "Cyber Detection & Response," delivered by our in-house specialists. Their efforts have enabled our people to refresh their knowledge and sharpen their skills when it comes to defending emerging cyber threats. Here are the Cyber Team's top four tips to help keep you secure: 1. Turn on multi-factor authentication. 2. Keep your devices and software up to date. 3. Use passphrases. 4. Recognise and report phishing attempts.

  • An amazing initiative from our partners at Life Ready Health Group! Their Open House Program provides free physiotherapy to those facing financial or medical hardship. This initiative has already delivered over 190 consultations, and we’re excited to support Life Ready in making quality health services accessible to all.

We believe everyone deserves access to quality healthcare—no matter their circumstances. Since 2017, Life Ready (now part of HBF Health) has been offering free physiotherapy through its Open House Program for those facing financial or medical hardship. The response from the Life Ready team has been impressive, with practitioners eager to give back and help those in need, delivering more than 190 consults since the program began. Each year, clients referred to Open House receive at least three free sessions, with the possibility of more, all at no charge. Referrals are easy through an online form—whether self-referred or on behalf of someone in need. Appointments are available at Life Ready clinics in Western Australia and Victoria (excluding Life Ready Mobile), with the same clinical care and treatment as any regular appointment. 💬 Sarah Morris, Acting Chief Operations Officer of Life Ready, shares: "Life Ready’s Open House Program allows us to extend our mission of moving people towards their best quality of life—especially those in need. It’s about making physiotherapy accessible, no matter someone’s financial situation." For more information or to make a referral, visit https://hubs.ly/Q02ZzZ1K0

  • Yesterday, our team in Perth took part in the silent march through the CBD to mark the beginning of the 16 Days in WA campaign, showing our support for ending family and domestic violence. This year's theme, “Play Your Part”, emphasises that we all have a responsibility to speak out against gender-based violence. At HBF Health, we are proud to support this important campaign, helping to drive change in behaviours and attitudes, and offering domestic violence leave. We stand in solidarity with survivors and advocates, working together to create a safer and more respectful community. #16daysofactivism #stopgenderedviolence

  • Today marks HBF Physio by Life Ready’s 1st birthday, and wow, what a year it has been! Over the course of HBF Physio’s first year, we have opened six clinics across Western Australia: one brand new clinic in Bull Creek and the rebranding of five Life Ready clinics to HBF Physio in Baldivis, Busselton, Butler, Midland, and Rockingham. Reflecting on the past year, Dr Daniel Heredia, Group Executive of Insurance and Health Services, says, “We’re delighted to have provided Physio treatment at over 70,000 appointments since opening our doors 12 months ago. HBF Physio appointments represent a growing number of the 360,000 services we deliver across the Life Ready and HBF Physio network. The no-gap offer has been a great added benefit for our members, providing extra value on HBF health cover through HBF Physio locations. It’s amazing to think that a year ago the HBF Physio brand didn’t exist and within 12 months we’ve been able to build member awareness for it to be the most recognised physiotherapy brand in WA.” Check out HBF Physios services and book today at hbfphysio.com.au.

  • HBF Health is excited to announce the launch of HBF Patient Pulse – an important initiative enabling us to share valuable member insights with medical and hospital providers to assist in the continual improvement of care provided to our members. As a not-for-profit health fund, our focus is on our members’ health and wellbeing. We believe there is an important role for us to provide a voice to our members to share their hospitalisation experience and outcome of that care. The initiative will provide eligible HBF members the option of responding to clinically specific questionnaires incorporating evidence-based measures tailored to the patient over multiple interactions during their illness, treatment and recovery journey. This feedback will be consolidated and shared with medical and hospital providers to highlight what is working well and where improvements could be made from a patient’s perspective. As Australia's fifth biggest health fund and a not-for-profit organisation, we believe that HBF has an important role to play in seeking to enhance our members’ health and wellbeing. More information about Patient Pulse can be found in a recent edition of Medical Forum featuring an interview with Dr Daniel Heredia, HBF's Group Executive, Insurance and Health Services, or on our website. https://lnkd.in/gxHTRa55

Cardiovascular disease remains one of Australia's most important health challenges and is responsible for 25% of all deaths in Australia. However, HBF Health’s The COACH Program™ is making a substantial impact in addressing this concerning statistic. Our recent study, conducted in partnership with The COACH Program™ and published in the American Journal of Medicine, reveals the transformative effects on health outcomes of personalised telephone coaching through The COACH Program™. Key findings include a 34% reduction in cardiovascular-related deaths, an 8% decrease in hospitalisations, and an average annual savings of $1,499 for HBF members who took part. Offered to HBF members, The COACH Program™ provides tailored support for managing chronic disease such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes through a six-month coaching service delivered by experienced healthcare professionals, like Kate and Phaedra (pictured). This research shows the significant benefits of personalised health management, which many everyday Australians may not realise is available through their health insurance. The Program’s approach of setting simple goals and providing accountability through health coaches not only helps reduce lifestyle and biomedical risks but also significantly lowers healthcare costs for both members and the health system. I extend my gratitude to the research team led by Professor Josh Byrnes from the Centre for Applied Health Economics at Griffith University team for their valuable contributions to this important work. • Yesterday, HBF Health hosted an insightful webinar in partnership with Grace Molloy from Menopause Friendly Australia. The webinar addressed the significant impact menopause can have on women's overall well-being—physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially. Menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep disturbances, not only disrupt daily life but can also have long-lasting effects on productivity and mental health. Recent studies show that 80% of individuals experiencing menopause are employed, yet 83% report reduced productivity due to their symptoms, and 67% express concerns about their mental health. As we strive to be a leading employer in supporting women through this phase of life, our Chief People Officer, Amy Stanley, emphasised, “At HBF, we are committed to creating a workplace that prioritises empathy and support for all employees. Understanding the challenges of menopause is a crucial step towards fostering an inclusive and accommodating environment.”

  • Our Health and Safety team has been busy hosting ‘SafeTea’ sessions for our people at HBF’s branch network, head office, and virtually across Australia as part of National Safe Work Month. We’re driving home the message that “safety is everyone’s business”, reminding us that maintaining a healthy and safe work environment is both a fundamental right and a collective responsibility. As part of the sessions, we're raising awareness of crucial safety practices, like spotting and reporting hazards before they escalate, and recognising incidents—big or small—so we can learn and prevent future mishaps.
