Grain Producers Australia (GPA) represents Australia's broadacre, grain, pulse and oilseed producers at the national level. GPA was created to ensure grain producers had a national body with a representative producer focused structure. GPA fosters a strong, innovative, profitable, globally competitive and environmentally sustainable grains industry in Australia. Working through a comprehensive policy development framework process Grain Producers Australia develops well researched and responsible policy to protect and promote Australian grain producers. Our members are the State Farming Organisations of Australia, as well as farmers who directly support the work of GPA via a production based levy. GPA is a not-for-profit member-based organisation. GPA has an important role in aiding the coordination, management and delivery of industry minor use permits that help grain producers more effectively control various pests, weeds and diseases. GPA holds a number of permits under the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority minor and emergency use program to ensure growers have timely access to the tools they need. Leading the way on the grains industry response to issues relating to pesticide access, use, stewardship and impacts on trade and market access, plus emerging digital and automation technologies is GPA’s Pesticides and Technology committee. GPA maintains its role representing growers as a vital part of the supply chain through membership of Grain Trade Australia. We sit alongside members of the commercial grain industry including trading and marketing, storage and feed and food processors. We are directly involved in following technical committees: Transport, Storage & Ports Commerce Trading Standards Plant Breeding Innovation We also hold a position on the National Working Party on Grain Protection (NWPGP), which is concerned with providing management and leadership to industry in areas of post-harvest grain storage and hygiene, chemical use, outturn tolerances, international and domestic market requirements and chemical regulations. GPS technologies, wireless and Bluetooth have become everyday necessities. The introduction of autonomous farm machinery and artificial intelligence will increase the requirement for real-time connectivity. Our engagement with the National Residue Survey via the Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is important for growers, grain traders and our market access. The NRS supports Australia’s primary producers and agricultural industries by confirming Australia’s status as a producer of clean food and facilitating access to domestic and export markets. This involves testing of plant products for pesticide residue, or other contaminants, to: The NRS is funded by grower levy contributions and demonstrates our industry’s commitment to quality products and compliance with food safety and importing country requirements. GPA represents grain producers and the industry’s biosecurity interests as both members of Plant Health Australia and as a signatory to the Emergency Plant Pest Response Deed (EPPRD) Find out more about this function - https://lnkd.in/gPHKmddd This means we have responsibility to: - Biosecurity planning and implementation at both on-farm and national levels - Liaising with state and federal governments on trade issues - Funding and supporting biosecurity initiatives - Participating in national committees and response efforts in an emergency through the National Management Group and committees. A large part of how we support growers in this area comes via the award-winning Grains Farm Biosecurity Program with Plant Health Australia

GPA is advocating for a clear pathway to adoption for autonomous farm machinery as part of the Australian Government’s National Robotics Strategy. This new technology will deliver efficiency gains for grain producers, along with broader industry and community benefits. GPA is continuing to promote the Code of Practice proactively that we’ve developed in partnership with the SPAA Society of Precision Agriculture Australia and Tractor and Machinery Association of Australia, and across industry.
