About us

Elenberg Fraser is an integrated architecture and interior design practice alongside the research-led studio of Fraser & Partners. Invention excites us. Operating across the Asia-Pacific region, our buildings prove that good design leads to economic, social and cultural benefits. We address the needs of our clients, building users and the community by identifying the specific needs of each project. We ask the right questions without imposing pre-determined solutions and then we use our 6Ds process to take us to the invention stage. This process has opened people’s eyes to impossible realities. Who knew buildings could be both design-driven and market-driven? The outcome is sensory – architecture that people can feel, not just see. Architecture that makes people think, acknowledging the origins of architecture and its plethora of influences, both ancient and modern. We are conscious of the impact our buildings have on the city, its inhabitants and the environment. This awareness informs our work – we take pride in the end results but consider the effects and requirements of our projects beyond their completion, well into the future. We practice environmental design based on a first principles approach, inspired by the natural environment. Through interrogation, invention and collaboration we produce experiential spaces that demand reaction.

We know that the best-designed precincts make for closely knit communities that are miles ahead of fortress suburbia. Over the past decade, we’ve partnered with AVJennings to design five apartment buildings and 40 townhouses that form the Waterline Place precinct in Williamstown, VIC. These residences represent the pinnacle of multi-level living, thoughtfully designed to complement and enhance the local community. That’s important in Williamstown because it’s less of a suburb of Melbourne and more of a cosy seaside town. We’re proud of our collaboration with AVJennings - a developer embracing a vision to create a precinct that reflects and connects with this dynamic, eclectic, and vibrant community, bringing together people from all walks of life. Complementing The Queensbridge Building, an active proposal with the City of Melbourne reimagines the 10,000 m² underpark below the Kings Way overpass as Melbourne’s Low Line, inspired by New York’s celebrated High Line. Central to the proposal is a community food truck area, envisioned as an external food court for the city. Owned by the council, these food trucks aim to bring a new spark to Melbourne’s culinary scene, which has long thrived on the creativity of owner-chefs. This isn’t about high-end, expensive restaurants—it’s about bringing accessible and exciting offerings to the community. The space incorporates community sporting facilities, including a basketball and Futsal court, a kids’ playground, and a bouldering facility. An EV charging fleet, sunken amphitheatre, and public art commissions will further set the tone for a personable and community-focused neighbourhood, serving Melbourne’s densest population. Located within a flood zone, the design integrates water catchments to remove surface water and filter it through an urban wetland rich with endemic species, fostering biodiversity and enhancing flood resilience. #thequeensbridgebuilding #southbank #melbourne #architecture #melbournearchitecture

Reminiscent of New York's Flatiron, The Queensbridge Building at 88 Queensbridge Street embraces its triangular structure, creating a bold focal point for Melbourne’s Southbank. Connecting The Queensbridge Building with Kavanagh and forming a new community spine is Hannah Street. At Hannah Street West sits the Hannah St. Hotel, a boutique neighbourhood hotel while at Hannah Street East, we've proposed Melbourne's JW Marriott. Between them, a central park and vibrant community spaces bring life and connection to the precinct. This new series of found spaces ties together Boyd School, the intersection, and The Queensbridge Building, creating a hub of connection and community - something that Southbank locals will be proud of. With Kavanagh and The Queensbridge Building, designed by Fraser & Partners, well underway, we’re excited to see this bold vision come to life - setting the stage for Southbank’s most exciting phase yet. #thequeensbridgebuilding #southbank #melbourne #architecture #melbournearchitecture

We are excited to announce that 22 Mary Avenue, Broadbeach has been submitted for development approval with the City of Gold Coast. This boutique 38-storey building features 56 half-floor, and 3 full-floor luxury apartments, designed by Fraser & Partners Associate Architect Alexandra Gilley and her team. It stands as a statement of minimalist design - where the unnecessary is stripped away to reveal the essence of structure and space. Rooted in an Australian context, this building redefines the quintessential Australian architecture. From locally sourced materials to a design that celebrates the coastal environment, 22 Mary Avenue offers a contemporary interpretation of place, community, and simplicity. We are grateful to collaborate with Mosaic Property Group to bring this vision to life. Imagine a building that powers itself. At Kavanagh, sustainable design goes beyond aesthetics to deliver real impact. The project’s solar shell is designed to generate a substantial portion of the building's energy needs. The façade, equipped with advanced solar panels, will produce an impressive 419,020 kWh annually—meeting 19% of the energy demand for the residential apartments. This isn’t just sun-shading; it’s a core component of our carbon-zero strategy. Rising from the podium, Kavanagh’s two distinct towers embody environmental consciousness at every level. The first tower stands as a refined presence, while the second makes a bold statement on the Southbank skyline. Both façades are more than visually striking—they’re engineered to adapt to sunlight, optimising energy efficiency as they transform sunlight into sustainable power. Kavanagh redefines Build-to-Rent developments, seamlessly merging sustainable function with elegant form. We are excited for this cornerstone Southbank project to come to life, and look forward to partnering with a developer who shares the vision. #architecture #BTR #buildtorent #property #melbourneproperty #southbank #apartments

To keep up with the demands of a rapidly expanding market, BTR needs diversity. Situated in the Boyd School Precinct of Melbourne’s Southbank, Kavanagh exemplifies how Build-to-Rent can honour heritage while meeting the needs of a modern city. With a design rooted in authentic, material-rich modernism, Kavanagh contrasts and complements the original brickwork, reinvigorating the 1888 heritage facade as part of the hotel’s food and beverage areas, giving it a renewed purpose for the next century. By extending Hannah Street along the heritage facade, Kavanagh introduces a new laneway that links Kavanagh Street and Hannah Street, seamlessly connecting to the park and completing the vision for the Boyd School Precinct as a dynamic new community hub for Southbank. When was the last time you saw a round tower? At Fraser & Partners, we love them. Aspire - 307 King Street is sculptural architecture at its most refined—a study in boolean subtraction, where the removal of excess defines the form. Watch the full video: https://lnkd.in/g3Q_7jjE With a round plan, designed to be read cinematically from every angle, this project is the antithesis of bloated, bulky architecture. It’s all about economy—cutting away the unnecessary, building only what we need. Thanks to our avant-garde partners, ICD Property, who approached this project with integrity, faith and a deep appreciation for the artistry of architecture, Aspire - 307 King Street stands as a testament to what’s possible when economy meets sculpture. #architecture #design #form #sculpturalarchitecture #melbourne #icdproperty

One of the first of the new generation of Elenberg Fraser's super towers, 380 Lonsdale is actually two towers in one. The South tower houses a combination of residential apartments and hotel rooms, the other is exclusively a residential tower. The forms of the towers appear as silver diagonal ripples across the facade. Each apartment is given the undeniable attraction of bay windows formed with curved glass. Residents get incredible 180 degree views, while the shifting curvature provides the building’s surface with a vertical rhythm. #lonsdale #melbourne #architecture
