Today marks an important chapter in Australia’s defence history. We’re proud to unveil Black Sky Industries, a Queensland-based defence technology player and Australia’s only sovereign developer and supplier of solid rocket propellant and solid rocket motors to the defence sector. We’re also announcing our multi-million dollar headquarters and launch, test and manufacturing facilities in Queensland, with plans to create hundreds of advanced manufacturing and defence industry jobs over the next decade. We believe that technology can act as a force multiplier, allowing smaller countries like Australia to punch above our weight in defence capabilities. This belief underpins our focus on advanced technologies such as rockets and guided weapons. We have an opportunity to make the defence industry sector more efficient and effective; Black Sky is driven by the idea that defence dollars can be spent more wisely to achieve better outcomes. This is our chance to reshape the defence industry by fostering a new generation of companies that are agile, innovative, and capable of addressing the complex challenges of modern warfare. Black Sky Aerospace is excited to welcome David Johnson (DJ), CD to the team in his role as Black Sky's General Manager Enterprise Development (GMED). As part of our goal to reimagine how rockets and propulsion systems are design and manufactured, we have a strong belief that an enterprise that focuses on the provision of real sovereign capability globally will be integral to achieving long term success. Coming from an extensive background of global capability development and innovation in Joint Fires and recognised as one of the best in the business when it comes to delivering capability and leadership, David’s role in Black Sky will be focussed on growing our enterprise globally with the delivery of our sovereign capability through the speed of relevance. Ultimately, David will be essential in meeting customer needs globally that will reimagine how guided weapons are designed, developed and manufactured to enhance Australia’s sovereign defensive capability.
