📅 Tuesday 3 December was International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). To celebrate, the Housing and Support team held a barbeque at a local park. It was a great opportunity for tenants to get together and catch up with some good food in the sunshine! ☀️ There was even an egg and spoon race which brought lots of laughs and fun to the day. 🧡 IDPwD is all about advocating for people with disabilities to be able to fully participate in society and enjoy equal living conditions to others. This closely aligns with Annecto's own Practice Framework and purpose, which is to connect individuals and their communities to realise an inclusive society. 🧡 #IDPwD #IDPwD2024 #Disability #HousingandSupport

👉 Meet David, an Annecto staff member from our Western and Grampians region, VIC. We are giving David a massive shoutout today for winning the 2024 Cahill Award. The Cahill Award recognises staff who are dedicated to providing exceptional support to individuals with disabilities. Sponsored by the Cahill family, this award is in memory of Ron and Nellie Cahill, longstanding committee members of David House, and founding members of Annecto. This award also honours Ron and Nellie’s son, Glen who passed away this year after receiving services from David House and Annecto for over 60 years. David is known to be passionate about the work he does. The people we support know him for his kindness – and if David is ever away from work, they express how much they miss him and how eager they are for his return. Our award winner David is not only a great support, but he is also a driving force behind creating an environment where everyone is respected and valued. On Thursday 31 October many people across the globe gathered to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. 🕯️ The Annecto Sydney team hosted their own Diwali celebrations to mark the special occasion. 🧡 It was a day filled with beautiful colours, bright candles, delicious traditional foods and some staff members wore colourful traditional clothing. Yesterday was Trans Remembrance Day. Each year, we observe Trans Day of Remembrance to honour and remember trans, gender diverse and non-binary lives lost to acts of anti-trans violence and discrimination. We also recognise those who came before us and made things better for the transgender community today. Annecto acknowledges the continued fight for trans rights.
