About us

The Australian Institute of Urban Studies is an independent non-profit organisation established through the initiatives of the Australian Planning Institute and the Social Science Research Council. The Institute is supported by membership subscription and by the proceeds of its activities such as public seminars, the sale of research publications and by occasional grants from industry and government. Although there are other, mostly professional, organisations with an interest in urban affairs, AIUS is Australia's only widely representative, non partisan, multi-disciplinary body concerned with all aspects of urban affairs.

The Great Divide: Australia's Housing Mess And How To Fix It Join ABC economics commentator Alan Kohler and a panel to discuss Australia’s housing mess and ideas for its repair. Alan’s Quarterly essay identifies the start of the 21st century as the time at which house prices got away from the grasp of those who did not already own one. Australian society was altered by the schism between the home owners and the others. Inequality and intergenerational disparities were profoundly changed by the runaway house prices. Alan will tell the story of how we got into this mess – and how we might get out of it. Register now: https://lnkd.in/g_vGTcX2
