About us
We are a leading technology services venture building company, founded by James McHugh in 2010. We are experts in building new ventures from seed to scale in critical high-growth technologies. We build, incubate, and accelerate technology service companies, particularly in “Sunrise Technologies” - software vendors growing in excess of 20% p.a where the demand for the software outstrips the maturity of the ecosystem of qualified practitioners. We either build stand-alone businesses with co-investment from software vendors or “Build Operate Transfer’ Joint Ventures in partnership with global consulting firms - which brings the benefits of M&A with reduced cost and integration risk. Through our robust talent network, we connect our businesses with skilled professionals to support their growth. By fostering relationships between startups and the larger tech ecosystem, we create a specialised talent pool that remains relevant to the evolving technology landscape. With a team of asset management and venture capital experts, we invest in technology service ventures from seed to scale. Our strategic capital deployment in our ventures aims to achieve strong returns through successful exits, supporting further innovation and growth in the technology services industry. Our international investment portfolio covers AI, ServiceNow, Google Cloud, UiPath, Pegasystems, Salesforce, Microsoft, Snowflake, and AWS, spanning the US, UK, Japan, EMEA, and Australia. Since our inception, Tquila and James McHugh have built over $1 billion in equity value, with projected exit values of the current portfolio exceeding $300 million. Great things happen when a team knows how to go the distance. Our Tquila crew recently explored the stunning landscapes of Mallorca, strengthening bonds and endurance. Cycling, like business, teaches us resilience, teamwork, and perseverance. Proud of this team both on and off the road! #Tquila #Cycling #Teamwork #Mallorca

Tquila at the Databricks World Tour 2024 London
Data + AI World Tour 2024 London Excellent event thanks to Mike Mooney for the invite. Some thoughts below: 1) Zeal for Databricks: demand for the London leg of the world tour meant it was easier to get Oasis tickets than an invite for the Excel - Michael Green joked about Taylor Swift getting into data such was the hype! Break-out sessions were full and engaging, there are a lot of evangelists rooting for Databricks and it’s growing at an impressive pace. 2) Democratising Data & AI is real: tools like Genie are moving the design process away from data experts towards teams with domain experience and expertise on the shop floor. It’s a work in progress as Databricks co-founder Arsalan Tavakoli pointed out in that there’s still 85% of workflows that need to go into production. 3) Private vs open source LLMs: from Llama 3.1 to OpenAI to DBRX the speed of improvement in large language models is incredible. There was a slight bias towards opensource in the conversations, but the feedback is that customers want to see data done well agnostic to the standards. 4) Nimbleness and reactivity of the Databricks organisation: function of the company’s current size but an over-riding theme was the willingness of the Databricks teams to engage. Be that with giants like Asda and Rolls Royce or with early-stage start-ups such as Dakko AI customers are gushing in their praise. Long may this culture continue. 5) Opportunities in the partner ecosystem: it’s exciting for Tquila with our successful track record in similar partner ecosystems such as Salesforce, Microsoft, Pegasystems, Google, ServiceNow amongst others. There is a market need for mid-sized players between the large ISVs and the <50-person long tail of hundreds of EMEA Datbricks partners. Excellent conversation with Máté Gulyás from DATAPAO around the partner ecosystem and where he sees opportunities. Our mission is to support partners such as Datapao growing the human side of technology. #data #ai #databricks #growingthehumansideoftechnology #databricks

Brilliant event, we are looking forward to participating, & thanks Jon Bennett for hosting. As a side note, we hear you loud and clear, we have at least one priority take away (before the event even starts) to build a bot to pull together your 2025 budgets 😉 #retinue #data #healthcare #ai #tqa #tquila
This week I get to do my all-time favourite part of my job (no offence finance, I love doing budgeting too, obvs)! Thursday sees the return of our Leaders in #PrivateCare Roundtable and Networking Dinner and I am the very lucky host. What's better than spending time with the very best people in the market discussing the challenges we face in driving forward care standards and patient experiences. On Thursday, we kick off with the amazing Ben Park from TQA for a discussion on how #AI is changing both the make-up of the care workforce and how we can prepare ourselves for the patients of the future. Feeling the FOMO? DM me to be involved next time. Ben Radford CCWP Lauren Hunter Richard Mitchell Vic Khan Charlotte Hayden Dan Hinsley Jordanna Green James McHugh Tom Abbott Rachel Mckenzie

The Tquila team has been diving deep into #genai this summer with insightful guest speakers shedding light on its impact to software and service businesses. In a recent call, we were reminded of Clayton Christensen's classic, "The Innovator's Dilemma." As Christensen wisely put it, "The greatest danger for established companies is not that they will fail to innovate, but that they will innovate too late." Let's stay ahead of the curve and embrace innovation proactively. Clayton Christensen Institute
