Better data, better testing, better treatment

About us

Recurrent UTIs are more common than you think: - 7 million females experience a UTI each year in the USA - 30-44% will have a UTI recurrence - 1 in 2 females will experience a UTI in their lifetime - 85% of all UTI diagnoses are in females - UTI is the most common adult bacterial infection globally - Standard UTI testing is inaccurate in at least 50% of cases - $1Billion is spent annually on UTI healthcare in the USA alone Although the inaccuracies of standard UTI testing methods are well documented, guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of recurrent and chronic UTI are virtually non-existent. The inadequacy of guidelines and testing has created a two-pronged problem: - Practitioners do not have the resources or guidance required to assist females stuck in the cycle of chronic UTI - Females who suffer from recurrent and chronic UTI are left with long term, debilitating symptoms, and no hope for permanent treatment At Live UTI Free we recognize the need for better access to information on both sides of this equation, and we strive to provide an actionable resource for females to pursue better testing and better treatment. In the process, we are creating the most comprehensive global database of the patient perspective around recurrent and chronic UTI.

  • Indira Mysorekar is a Professor of Medicine whose lab group has made a number of significant discoveries in microbiology and microbial pathogenesis of UTI. One of these was the finding that E. coli can persist in reservoirs in the bladder and re-emerge to cause symptoms. This finding was a huge step forward for recurrent and chronic UTI research. This interview answers the following questions and more: 👉 Can you see inflammation, biofilms, or an embedded infection via a cystoscopy? 👉 What is cystitis cystica and what does it look like on cystoscopy? 👉 How can chronic bladder inflammation and chronic UTI be differentiated? 👉 Could long term bladder inflammation lead to more serious conditions in the bladder? 👉 Is it possible to break the cycle of inflammation and infection? 👉 After a UTI, how long does inflammation in the bladder typically take to subside? 👉 Does repeated use of antibiotics have a negative impact on the immune system? 👉 How does the immune system deal with foreign objects such as an indwelling catheter? 👉 Are there any treatments or natural remedies that might provide helpful immune system support for those with chronic bladder infection? We truly appreciate the time experts contribute to our community and we'd love to hear from you if you'd like to get involved! https://lnkd.in/efJZwRn5

  • We receive a lot of questions from the patient community about Lyme disease, other tick-borne infection, and mold toxicity. Greg Lee, the founder of the Lyme Research and Healing Center and LymeResearchCenter.com, recently joined us for an interview to answer some of these questions. In this interview he shares insights around the following questions: 👉 What is Lyme disease and what other organisms can ticks transmit? 👉 Is it possible to have contracted a tick-borne infection without developing a 'bullseye rash'? 👉 What are the symptoms of an acute or chronic tick-borne infection? 👉 Is it possible to have chronic Lyme disease despite initial antibiotic treatment? 👉 Are there other medical conditions with symptoms similar to those of chronic Lyme disease? 👉 What is the relationship between biofilms and tick-borne infections? 👉 How do you test for Lyme disease? 👉 How is chronic Lyme disease treated? 👉 What is mold toxicity, and what are the symptoms? 👉 How can you test for and treat mold toxicity? We truly appreciate the time experts contribute to our community and we'd love to hear from you if you'd like to get involved! https://lnkd.in/eZDMhJZG

  • Have you ever heard of bacteriophage therapy for recurrent UTI? Research has shown great promise in this area, and we're excited to announce that a clinical trial is planned for 2025. To provide more insight into phage therapy and how PHIOGEN's new phage products work, Amanda (Curtis) Burkardt and Mayukh Das discussed the following questions in our recent video interview: 👉 What is bacteriophage therapy? 👉 Could phage therapy be used anywhere in the body, for instance, the bladder, vagina or respiratory system? 👉 Does there need to be a certain level of bacteria present in order for phage therapy to work? 👉 Can they kill bacteria embedded within the bladder wall, or in biofilms? 👉 What makes someone more or less likely to be a good candidate for phage therapy? 👉 Do you need to be able to culture someone’s infection in order to develop the right phages for therapy? 👉 How long does it take to eradicate a chronic UTI with phage therapy? 👉 Are there any potential side effects of phage therapy? 👉 Can phages negatively impact the good organisms in the normal microbiome? 👉 How will people be able to participate in PHIOGEN’s clinical trial? • For our new community members, there are resources on our website you might not be aware of. One of these is our UTI diagnostics directory. This year we selected four labs; two in the US and two in the UK. Each provides both UTI and vaginal microbiome testing. The US labs also offer prostatic microbiome testing. Over on our YouTube channel we've covered these different types of testing in more detail. You can also learn more via the in-depth articles linked in the directory. Download the directory alongside our take to your doctor resource, which is designed specifically for patients to share with their doctors. These resources and our preparing for your appointment worksheet are all available using this link: https://lnkd.in/e8i_cDxs Thanks to MicroGenDX, EmeritusDX - A Cancer Diagnostic and Information Company, Systems Biology Laboratory UK c.i.c, and Focus Medical Diagnostics for continuing to support our community and working towards better patient outcomes. #bladdersmatter #utitesting #diagnostics #recurrentuti #chronicuti #prostatitis
