We have acquired Point Campus in Dublin, Ireland's largest off-campus student accommodation complex. The 966 bed-property will be managed under our pan-European student brand Canvas and includes a gym, cinema, common room and roof terrace. Bisnow’s annual Women Leading Real Estate conference took place last week in London. We spent the morning hearing from women at the forefront of the property industry, on their experiences, challenges, and hopes for the future of the sector. Greystar's first Australian project and one of the largest build-to-rent developments in the country is now open.   The Gladstone street development, in the heart of Melbourne’s cultural hub, will add 700 new rental homes, helping to fill a crucial gap in the current housing market. Greystar Australia Managing Director Matt Woodland was joined by the Victorian Minister for Development Victoria, Precincts and Creative Industries Colin Brooks at the official ribbon cutting ceremony, alongside partners, investors, residents and the local community. Bob Faith, CEO and founder of Greystar said: “The Gladstone marks a significant milestone in Greystar’s legacy as our first official operation on Australian soil. My comments from #propertysummit during the week covered by the Sunday Business Post. Main points were that the type of rent cap in Ireland is a deterrent to investment, which is needed to deliver on our housing targets. Investors used to rental regulation but needs to be able to link to inflation over the longer term. Tenants should be protected so could link to lease rather than unit. Also there have been a huge amount of policy changes affecting the residential market - all with the aim to improve things, but taken together has created a heightened side of risk for the investment community. Also great analysis on the day provided by Michael Byrne on the various political parties and their housing proposals.
