YCombinator Startup supporting grassroots level community football club. Dublin United FC is delighted to get the support from Zoko (YC W21). The journey of a Startup and a Football Club has some resemblance. There are lots of ups and downs. The idea is to focus on what can you can do and enjoy the journey as well as the small wins. It is not easy to manage football clubs without the support of sponsors. The sponsors not just help in regard with the funding support but they also instil confidence in the players and the club. There is a subtle proud moment when you have a jersey with a sponsor name on the chest. Sponsors not just look at the performance on the pitch. Brands look at the overall approach of the club on and off the pitch. It is a win win for the brand and the football club. Football jersey has a long durability as it is used for at least couple of years and the brand visibility has much longer duration compared to other modes of advertising. It is interesting to look at one of the LinkedIn posts by Arjun V Paul .., the co-founder of Zoko. He spoke about the importance of sports, the importance of team work and how they use that as a filter while interviewing candidates for their startup. The association with Zoko and Arjun is courtesy TKMCE 1999 2003 where both of us were together during our engineering education. Dublin United FC has been fortunate to get support from Ed-hoc International and Eram Holdings as well who are on board as the sponsors of this football club based in Dublin, Ireland along with other brands Pure Dosa (Santhosh Sankaranarayanan & Srikripa Krishnan), MyTaxMate, Carhoc Limited, Jobhoc Global who have been supporting us on this journey which has now more than 100+ players who have relocated to Ireland from India for studies and work. The players , their families and supporters of the club are also multi talented. There are around 50 players who have recently completed their Masters in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Finance , Marketing, Health sector, etc and are looking for suitable opportunities to get going in their professional journey in Ireland. The startup ecosystem in Ireland is growing fast. Hopefully some of these players get an opportunity to showcase their skills and start working for them in the near future.
