Winter is around the corner, and with it comes stronger winds! 🌬️❄️ As temperatures drop, wind turbine capacity factors can increase by up to 47%, providing a significant boost to clean energy production. At BASF Renewable Energy, we’re tapping into the power of winter winds to generate more clean, reliable energy to keep our sites powered and drive our sustainability efforts. Stronger winds in colder months provide the perfect boost for renewable energy production, helping us move towards a better future. 🔋 🌍 #WindEnergy #RenewablePower #Sustainability #BASF Source credit: Potisomporn & Vogel (2021) In: Spatial and temporal variability characteristics of offshore wind energy in the United Kingdom

Is it true? 🤔 “Renewable energy is responsible for high electricity prices.” 📈 It’s often assumed that the cost of renewable power, like wind or solar, drives electricity prices up. In reality, these are some of the most affordable energy sources! 💡 Under the Merit Order system, the most expensive power plant needed sets the price for all – often currently gas power plants. At BASF Renewable Energy, we are committed to investing in cost-effective and sustainable renewable energy solutions that not only ensure competitive prices in the long term but also reduce our dependency on more expensive conventional energy sources. Renewable energy is part of the solution, not the problem! ✅ #BASF #RenewableEnergy #MeritOrder #ElectricityPrices

🌟 A Successful Visit from Vattenfall's Executive Group Management! 🌟 Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Vattenfall Executive Group Management team to our BASF Ludwigshafen site. One of the highlights of the visit was a guided tour through the Ludwigshafen site, where BASF’s success story began in 1865. Today, around 39.000 employees work at the Ludwigshafen site. We had great discussions with our guests about the technological advancements and the operations of the largest integrated chemical factory in the world. Part of the tour was also a visit of the BASF 54 MW electrolysis plant, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the State of Rhineland-Palatine. After its planned start of operations in 2025, the Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer is expected to produce up to 8.000 metric tons of hydrogen per year. The meeting between the Vattenfall and BASF management teams fostered a positive atmosphere, reflecting the strong partnership we share. Together, we are committed to advancing renewable energy initiatives and driving the energy transition forward! Thank you to the Vattenfall team for an inspiring visit, and we look forward to our continued collaboration! 🌍 Empowering the Energy Transition! Our colleague Tobias Stäb recently participated in a panel discussion at the “Jahrestagung Marktoffensive Erneuerbare Energien”, alongside state secretary Dr. Philipp Nimmermann from Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Katrin Fuhrmann from ENGIE and Lavinia Bauerochse from Deutsche Bank. Focus of the discussion was on the crucial topic: “Private Capital for the Energy Transition: How Can We Leverage Further Investments in the Market?” Key takeaways include: 🔑 Predictable Framework Conditions: For power offtakers like BASF, having stable and predictable regulatory conditions is essential. Market interventions, such as a bidding zone split, pose significant risks that will hinder further progress. ⚡ Maintaining Low Power Import Costs: To ensure a successful transition, it's vital that power import costs, including grid fees, remain low. Otherwise, our ambitious energy goals could be jeopardized. 🌐 Building the Power Grid: A strong emphasis was placed on the urgent need to expand the German and European power grid. This infrastructure is crucial for facilitating the growth of renewable energy sources and ensuring energy security. Thanks to the team of Marktoffensive Erneuerbare Energien, Corinna Enders, Sofie Geisel, Philipp Andree, Tibor Fischer, and Dr. Sebastian Bolay for the successful event. Let’s continue to collaborate and innovate for a sustainable tomorrow!
