Connecting with Future Simulation Engineers at SimTech Industry Fair 2024 Recently, Dr.-Ing. Eric Bayerschen, Seat Belt Component Simulation Team Leader at ZF LIFETEC in Alfdorf, Germany, had the pleasure of attending the SimTech Industry Fair 2024 at the University of Stuttgart.  This event brought together several companies from the Stuttgart area, connecting with students from the Simulation Technology program. During his presentation, students received an initial insight into simulation methods and their application in the product development process at ZF LIFETEC. Many students visited the ZF LIFETEC Simulation desk and seized the opportunity to gain deeper insights about the use of simulation and our development strategy with digital twins. Through these interactions, we established early connections with potential future simulation engineers. Driving Safety Forward: ZF LIFETEC Debuts Electromechanical Seatbelt Locking With automated driving, car occupants will increasingly adopt relaxed, reclined seating positions while driving. In order to protect the occupants in this position in the best possible way, the seat belt retractor must be integrated into the seat. But that's not all. The mechanical belt lock must also be reconsidered. ZF LIFETEC has therefore developed the electromechanical e.Locking system solution for the ACR8.S seat belt retractor. An electromagnetic coil locks the belt retractor by means of a signal from the vehicle's ECU control unit. Networked with other safety systems in the vehicle, such as the emergency brake assistant or the pre-crash functions, the safety of the occupants can be further increased in this way.
