𝗭𝘂𝗸𝘂𝗻𝗳𝘁𝘀𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗺𝘂𝘀.

It's a critical time for climate decisions in Brussels. With the European Commission slated to come out with a Clean Industrial Deal in the first 100 days of its new mandate, it is more urgent than ever that policymakers strive harder to use real-time metrics that shed light on actual performance – and not bask in the warm glow of far-off targets. The 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 initiative aims to play its part in ensuring the future of European clean technology is both ambitious and achievable.   The timely series of reports by Breakthrough Energy , Cleantech for Europe, and featuring analysis by Systemiq Ltd. sheds light on the current state of the clean industrial transition.   🔗 Find the link to the full report in the comments!

Last week, our CEO, Nils Aldag, discussed "The Hydrogen Bank: Reflecting European Market Needs" at European Hydrogen Week. Missed the panel? Here’s a quick rundown of the key takeaways: 🚀 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗴𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: The first round of the EU Hydrogen Bank (#EHB) demonstrated its relevance by attracting numerous competitive projects. Spain, Lithuania, and Austria have joined as new candidates for the Auction-as-a-Service scheme, increasing the budget to over 2 billion EUR to further support the green hydrogen supply. 👉 However, scaling to meet EU production targets will require additional funding rounds and increased investments. 🌍 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮: Ensuring a level playing field is crucial for a publicly funded scheme such as the EHB. The resilience criteria are designed to ensure the security of supply for the EU economy. 👉 This will empower European electroylzer manufacturers to scale faster,  achieve cost reductions and cement technological and quality leadership – which is crucial for our customers and the wider hydrogen economy. 📈 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱: Many producers are still facing challenges in finding offtakers, which slows down investments and undermines the EU's net-zero roadmap. 👉The ramp up of hydrogen supply must align with demand. Developing green lead markets, adopting a strategic approach to green premiums and implementing demand incentive mechanisms will be key drivers. #HydrogenIsTheAnswer

Senior Manager Regulatory Affairs - Sunfire

I participated yesterday in the round table "Legal Barriers and Opportunities of EU’s Legal H2 Framework" organised by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH. Here are my very own takeaways: 💚The EU's unique and ambitious regulatory framework to deploy renewables can make it a major demand (and production) hub for green hydrogen 🏆We have achieved huge progress in the past 24 months in defining clear rules for RFNBO, establishing flagship funding instruments for production, and adopting binding rules for end-uses 👷♂️Three key challenges remain, namely increasing and simplifying access to funding for green hydrogen production (1); clarifying, uniformizing and enforcing RFNBO end-uses mandates. Guiding priciples should be Predictability, Focus and Accountability (2); implementing green lead markets to generate organic demand for RFNBO. A strategic approach to green premiums will be pivotal to the creation of a fossil-free economy (3) Many thanks for the GIZ for hosting this round table and to all the participants for the constructive exchanges.
