Nature doesn’t take a holiday. 🎄 It’s mid-December. The trees are bare. The fields are frosty. But beneath it all, nature is hard at work. While we’re cozy indoors, life is thriving in ways we often overlook: 🐛 Beneath the frozen soil, tiny organisms are breaking down leaves, nourishing the earth for spring. 🌿 Evergreen plants continue photosynthesizing, quietly cleaning the air and providing shelter for smaller creatures. 🕊️ Up in the sky, migrating birds are charting ancient paths, connecting continents. Even in the stillness, nature is alive, quietly sustaining the balance of life. In the midst of what might be the busiest month of the year, take a moment to pause and notice the life around you. Take a deep breath. Look out your window—or, if you can, step outside, even if just for five minutes. How do you stay connected to nature during colder months? ❄️

What if art could be the answer to saving the Mediterranean’s marine ecosystem? 🎨🐠 Once a thriving spot of biodiversity, the Mediterranean Sea is now among the most overfished and ecologically degraded marine areas in the world. Why? Bottom trawling. An illegal fishing method where nets are dragged along the seabed, catching and destroying everything in their path. That’s why, for our 21st Planet Wild mission, we partnered with Casa dei Pesci that has found a creative and effective way to protect Mediterranean's vulnerable marine ecosystems. This has been our biggest mission yet, made possible by our incredible community! Check it out: https://lnkd.in/d5jMm35f and let us know what you think. Have you ever heard of using art to protect nature before?

Fallen leaves aren’t just dead weight on the ground—they’re full of life! 🍂🪲 Leaving them can do wonders for your garden and local wildlife. Every autumn, trees let go of their leaves, covering the ground in a colorful carpet. But those fallen leaves aren’t just a decoration (or litter!) —they’re an essential piece of the biodiversity puzzle. ♻️ Here's why leaf litter is a natural powerhouse: 🐛 Micro-habitats: Piled leafs create safe spaces for creatures—like butterflies and moths—that lay eggs and seek shelter as temperatures drop. 🌱 Soil Enrichment: As leafs decompose, they slowly release valuable nutrients back into the soil. This natural composting process feeds trees and plants, for the next growth cycle. 💧 Moisture Retention: Leaf litter acts as natural mulch, keeping soil moist, reducing erosion, and hydrating roots—even as temperatures drop. ❄️ Temperature Control: Leaves create an insulating layer that shields plant roots from frost, helping small plants and young trees survive through the winter. If you have a garden, before you rake every leaf in sight, consider leaving some leafs undisturbed—nature will thank you. 💚 What’s your favorite way to support local wildlife during the colder months? ❄️ Let us know in the comments.

We’re celebrating 10,000 Planet Wild supporters 🎉 Just a year and a half ago, our journey began with only 12 passionate members who believed in our mission. Today, we’re 10,000 strong – and growing! 💪 This milestone is so much more than just a number. It’s a reminder that we are more powerful than we think, when we come together. 🙌 Thanks to our growing community, we could: 💰 Increase our financial support 🌱 Scale our missions and impact 🌍 Bring meaningful change to places around the globe Each of our community members helped us make a real impact, showing what’s possible when we work together to restore nature. What was your favorite Planet Wild mission so far?

“We need more trees!” Absolutely, but there is more to it. There’s been a lot of buzz around tree planting, and rightfully so. Who doesn’t love trees? But here’s the thing: If tree planting isn’t done right, it could actually do more harm than good. Just digging holes and sticking in seedlings isn’t going to cut it. But when thoughtfully done, tree planting is one of the most effective things we can do for biodiversity. Trees: 🪴 Keep the soil healthy and prevent soil erosion 💨 Store carbon and fight climate change 💦 Capture and hold water 🥘 Create food and income for communities In our food forest mission in Senegal, we learned firsthand how to plant trees that serve ecosystems and communities alike—because when trees thrive, so do we. When was the last time you planted a tree?

Parenthood is a universal force—even in nature 🐟🦧🐆 In the wild, motherhood is about passing down survival skills and wisdom. From elephants teaching their young to master their trunks to polar bears nurturing their cubs in one of the harshest environments on Earth, for countless species, mothers are vital to the survival. But mothers aren’t the only ones doing the heavy lifting! In fact, co-parenting or even solo dads are quite common among some animal species. For example: 🐟 In half of all fish species, it’s the fathers who are doing the nursing. 🐦 Around 90% of bird couples share the parenting duties. 🐺 In wolf packs, both parents and older siblings help care for the pups. In the end, nature finds a way to make sure each new generation can stand on its own and thrive in the wild. 💚

Celebrating the power of our growing community and impact! 💪 From installing 25 nesting boxes for Little Owls in Mission 4 to digging 8,000 water bunds in Mission 20, as our community grows, so does our impact. 📈 And we're just getting started. Imagine what we can achieve with more than 10,000 members! 🚀

The most biodiverse habitat on Earth? Soil! 🌱 🐛 🦠 Did you know that 60% of all species on Earth thrive just beneath our feet, in soil?? This unassuming hero is not only essential for plant growth but also acts as a biodiversity haven, a natural water filter, and a crucial balance for ecosystems. But in Kenya, the soil—and all the life it supports—is in trouble. Rising global temperatures are leading to longer droughts and unpredictable rain patterns, causing serious problems for both the land and the people. The soil has become so dry and damaged that it can hardly support any life. That’s why, for our 20th Planet Wild mission, we’ve partnered up with Justdiggit to help restore the soil. How? By digging half-moon-shaped holes called bunds, and adding native grass seeds, which now have the water they need to sprout, kickstarting the regreening process. It’s a simple yet powerful method that restores the soil, captures water, and has the potential to regreen massive areas of barren land. Check it out to learn more about the method and our support: https://lnkd.in/dTmQBsHc A big thank-you goes to our incredible community that made this mission possible!
