As the year draws to a close, we have some fantastic news to share. The team behind »Exist« - a scholarship by the German state for science-based start-ups - has sent us the notification of funding. We are very thankful that this worked out in time despite the certainly not too easy situation with the current German government crisis. We have achieved an important goal of ours. To be honest, we had to work on the application longer than expected and also had to wait a while for a response. But it was worth it, since Exist has secured us a small six-figure sum for the whole of 2025. We would especially like to thank our scientific mentor for AI Visvanathan Ramesh, the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt a. Main, the Goethe Unibator and Andres Felipe Macias for their support with the stipend and everyone who reviewed our application! As the grant comes with certain conditions that we were bound to beforehand, we have not yet been able to set up the GmbH and investors have also been excluded. Now that we have the grant, we can finally take these important steps in 2025 and pick up the pace. This means that we have an exciting year ahead of us, including incorporation, a product launch and investment. We look forward to it. We have been awarded!!! 🥁 PHONT is »Kultur- und Kreativpilot*innen Deutschland 2024«. We traveled to Berlin to receive the award in the Westhafen. The event took place in an impressive location with a great program. Outstanding performances like the one by Lie Ning, strong speeches like the one by satirist Sarah Bosetti and being honored with the presence of Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck and Minister of Culture Claudia Roth made this a special time. One of the main topics discussed was how important the cultural and creative industries are, as they create value for our society in addition to their great economic value. We can only underline this relevance and are delighted to be part of this exciting industry. We were also represented with a booth alongside our dear colleagues Renata Bueno Tavares from Piumosso and Jennifer Reaves from Bitchfest. A huge thank you to the great team of the u-institut for the great organization and all the great efforts! We are looking forward to the upcoming workshops and the mentoring program that go hand in hand with the award. Sajjad is currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Information and Communication Engineering at TU Darmstadt and holds a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This week was very insightful! Frederik followed Peter Effenberg's invitation to Potsdam to present PHONT at the MediaTech Hub Conference. This conference was definitely worth the trip, if that wasn't already clear with Studio Babelsberg AG as the location (many of our favorite movies were shot here). We took the opportunity to attend the MediaTech Sprint of Creative Europe Desks Deutschland the day before. Many thanks for the great organization by Susanne Schmitt, Juliane Schulze, and Josephine Meissner and to the mentors – among others Timor Kardum, Clarens Grollmann and Kristian Müller – for their input! On the same evening we got a glimpse behind the magic of the Studios and had a fun dinner with the other speakers. The conference was opened by a great keynote from Evan Shapīro presenting an overview of the media universe. We have enriched our vocabulary with terms such as »FOFO - the Fear of Finding out« and »Collabo-gators«. Frederik met many new and familiar faces from media companies and investors before taking the stage himself. After the pitch, he answered questions about the use of AI in post-production in his first panel together with Michael Cioni from Strada and Tobias Queisser from Cinelytic, Inc. Thank you for your great moderation Kate Bulkley. The evening was crowned by an exclusive up-close concert by the Film Orchestra of Babelsberg. The next day also had some great presentations to offer. We would love to come again. Better late than never we announce a great signing for PHONT. Julia's expertise as a motion designer convinced us straight away when we first met her. Today we are reporting from beautiful Liège with good news. We were invited to travel to Belgium as finalists for the Cross-Fertalisation Prize and pitch against exciting start-ups. Creathriv-Eu strengthens the European Creative and Cultural Industries on behalf of the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) and awarded highly endowed prizes today. 🇪🇺 We can't believe that we were actually able to take first place against strong competition from GreenEyes Production, Daidream, Traptics, ArtCentrica and many more. 🥇 A big compliment to the other start-ups and a warm thank you to the organisers! With summer the events come. Sometimes they all come at once, such as last week when Paul and Frederik were on the road to present PHONT. It started with Transforming Media in Würzburg, where Paul pitched in front of experts from academia and practice on one of the biggest screens so far. Definitely a highlight to see our subtitles there! In Munich on the Innovation Festival organized by Media Lab Bayern, we experienced two of days of exciting connections with the industry and of course exchange with the others fellow of MediaLabs program Footprint Intelligence, Atopia Space, Daidream.io, Maple Tales, Neuraforge AI, UNPREPARED & Valid 👏 and also the team at MediaLab especially Ronja and Linette! It is great to see each team moving forward step by step, helping each other and learning from each others successes as well as mistakes. Meanwhile, Frederik pitched at the Media Tasting in Stuttgart, where there were exciting keynotes, as the one on A.I. from Richard Gutjahr, as well as great formats like speed dating and fishbowl with Germany's top media experts. It was great for us to be part of this year's MediaTasting line-up as it is one of the most exciting media networking events in Germany. This great day was crowned by a wine tasting and we are grateful for the invitation Martin Fechner, Kerstin Grimm and Frank Apfel. In Wiesbaden at Heimathafen on Friday, Hessen Ideen celebrated it’s alumnis. Also here we saw many familiar faces such as MapleTales, MentalStark, Mietzy, MySympto, Felipe, but also were happy to make new connections such as Minister of Economy and Science Timon Gremmels. After an intense week networking and many new connections, we are now happy to do what we equally love - being back in the office building our product.
