  • 📢 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐄𝐔𝐃𝐑 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫! We welcome the European Union's decision to extend the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) implementation timeline by 12 months. This provides essential breathing room for stakeholders - especially smallholder coffee farmers, who produce up to 80% of the world's coffee. The EUDR, which aims to protect global forests by ensuring key goods entering the EU market are free from deforestation, shall now be enforced for large companies starting on December 30, 2025, and for micro- and small enterprises on June 30, 2026. While the timeline adjustment is a step in the right direction, time alone isn't enough. To ensure a just and successful transition to deforestation-free coffee supply chains, critical support in three key areas is essential: ·      Financial Assistance – Funding for traceability systems and sustainable farming practices. ·      Capacity Development – Training programs to help farmers meet regulatory requirements. ·      Technical Infrastructure – Investment in geodata tools and infrastructure. 🌍We are committed to empowering coffee farming families to improve livelihoods, enhance climate resilience, and adapt to evolving market standards. Sustainable practices are the foundation of aligning with new regulations like the EUDR while fostering long-term economic stability. • 🚀 𝐖𝐞’𝐯𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑! 🌍☕️ In 2023, the global coffee sector faced significant challenges, from climate change-induced crop failures to soaring production costs. Smallholder farmers were particularly affected by extreme weather, market volatility, and rising input prices. Despite increases in coffee prices in some regions, the profitability of coffee farming has been under immense pressure. At ICP, together with our partner Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung - HRNS, we focused on promoting 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 and 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 to support smallholder farming families to build resilience, improve food security, and ensure sustainable livelihoods. 🌱💪 💡 Our report also highlights our ongoing commitment to gender equality and youth involvement in all focus countries. • 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐊𝐲𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐢 🌍 Building on the success of our project in Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola (2020-2023), where we supported 5,000 coffee farming households, we aim to reach similar results in Kyotera and Rakai. In Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola, coffee farming communities impressively improved not only coffee yield and income: 🌱 Farmer Organization Development: 12 coffee farmers’ cooperatives have been strengthened to provide embedded services to their members and leverage on existing services from the public and private sectors. 📈 Coffee yields increased from 593 kg/ha to 1149.7 kg/ha. 💵 Annual household income increased from $522.5 USD to $732 USD. 🌾Adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) increased by 56%, and Climate Smart Agricultural Practices (CSA) increased by 34%, ensuring resilience against climate challenges. 🥗 Enhancing Food Security: Households experiencing food insecurity dropped by 4%, while adaptive capacity to climate change improved by 56%. 👩🌾 Female participation in coffee farmer cooperatives increased by 6%. Building on best practices and experience from these projects, we are turning our attention to Kyotera and Rakai districts where coffee farming families are facing constraints that align with the broader offerings of our projects.☕🌱 #Uganda #FamilyBusiness #FarmerOrganization #Gender #Youth #CoffeeFarming #Kyotera #Rakai #Luwero #Nakaseke #Nakasongola

𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 💪💥 Despite societal resistance, Atu Watson, a widow and mother from Itaka Ward, Tanzania, challenged traditional norms and reshaped her life. 🌍💪 Although the community has traditionally been against women owning land and farming coffee, a crop believed to be meant for men, she ventured into coffee farming in 2021 and quickly made her mark. Through agronomy training within the ICP project, Atu gained knowledge on good agricultural practices, entrepreneurship, and business skills. Her one-acre farm now thrives with 750 coffee trees! 🌳✨ Her first harvest yielded 25 kg of coffee cherry, generating 115,000 Tsh, and she expects even more next year. But Atu’s success doesn’t stop there - she also runs a food vending business that now brings in over 3,120,000 Tsh annually, a huge leap from her previous earnings. 📈💰 Her wise investments cover her daughter's school fees and the purchase of ducks and goats. 🐐 A true role model in her society, Atu's success is changing people’s perceptions about women. She actively shares her knowledge, helping other women understand coffee production and follow her path. 🚀 #Tanzania #Gender #WomenEmpowerment #CoffeeFarming #Sustainability #Inspiration

ICP's and AMAGRI's goal is to connect rural women with the market, strengthen their businesses, and increase the visibility of family farming in the Perdões region. 🏅 The Speciality Coffee Competition had 10 winners, of which 5 participate in the ICP project in Brazil. Attending speciality coffee competitions contributes to the social and economic sustainability of rural communities. By improving the economic viability of small farms, these competitions help to guarantee the continuity of family farming and the conservation of traditional knowledge. In addition, the recognition obtained through the competitions can inspire new generations to invest in coffee growing, ensuring the perpetuation of this important economic and cultural activity. 🔝
