📢 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐄𝐔𝐃𝐑 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫! We welcome the European Union's decision to extend the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) implementation timeline by 12 months. This provides essential breathing room for stakeholders - especially smallholder coffee farmers, who produce up to 80% of the world's coffee. The EUDR, which aims to protect global forests by ensuring key goods entering the EU market are free from deforestation, shall now be enforced for large companies starting on December 30, 2025, and for micro- and small enterprises on June 30, 2026. While the timeline adjustment is a step in the right direction, time alone isn't enough. To ensure a just and successful transition to deforestation-free coffee supply chains, critical support in three key areas is essential: · Financial Assistance – Funding for traceability systems and sustainable farming practices. · Capacity Development – Training programs to help farmers meet regulatory requirements. · Technical Infrastructure – Investment in geodata tools and infrastructure. 🌍We are committed to empowering coffee farming families to improve livelihoods, enhance climate resilience, and adapt to evolving market standards. Sustainable practices are the foundation of aligning with new regulations like the EUDR while fostering long-term economic stability. Innovation is necessary to protect our global food chain and farmers' livelihoods without harming the Earth, we face crises such as climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, ect...) the way we produce food will determine our own existence, the sooner we begin a just transition towards a sustainable, resilient and inclusive food system that respects the well-being of all parties involved, the faster we will reach the solutions necessary for our subsistence. But; How can we guarantee farmer satisfaction and meet their productive and economic goals? How can we guarantee optimal use of resources and at the same time transmit knowledge in terms of sustainable management and agricultural analysis? How can we raise production standards, influence the profitability and sustainability of businesses or agricultural farms? How can we support and assist production processes in a transparent way and make producers feel identified with it? The reality is that producers are becoming less and less profitable, the climate is constantly changing, the soil is becoming poorer and the quality of production is constantly declining while the market demands the opposite. Water is used excessively, however it is not clear how to use it more efficiently. All this makes it necessary to have a new strategy that encompasses a comprehensive agricultural approach or management. We can let the producer see that we are there to help them, basing our actions on respect and mutual understanding to achieve common goals. From this I designed a strategy or comprehensive management that seeks to eradicate or at least “relieve” some of these problems that can affect the food producer, You can see it here: https://lnkd.in/e-9RwkQt I would like to know your opinion on the matter. I will read the comments. 📢 Launched today - In partnership with Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU) and WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development we have launched two reports which aim to support the food sector to mitigate 9 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in company Value Chains by 2030 – roughly ½ of all global Food System emissions. ✅ Report 1 in the series supports food sector companies to understand priority voluntary frameworks for climate and nature, how they relate to each other, and their increasing influence on sustainability regulation. ✅ Report 2 supports the food sector to assess the financial costs and benefits of implementing a range of climate change mitigation solutions, capable of reducing 90% of agricultural and land use change emissions in company #ValueChains by 2030. That’s ½ of all global #FoodSystem emissions! 🔗 Download the reports to find out how companies can advance a more sustainable, equitable, resilient and #FutureFit food sector 👉 https://lnkd.in/da8saWGA #ValueChains #FoodSystems

🚨 Changes in implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation ☝️! The implementation of the EU’s regulation aiming to prevent deforestation has been delayed. Originally set to take effect in December 2024, this vital legislation has now been postponed for at least another year! The law is designed to prevent the import and export of products linked to deforestation and forest degradation (e.g. commodities like wood, soy, coffee, palm oil, cocoa, and more). This postponement comes at a critical time, as the world continues to lose around 10 million hectares of forests each year. Forests are not only home to an incredible variety of species but also play a crucial role in mitigating climate change and fostering biodiversity! But why did it get delayed? ➡️ Some of the reasons are: 🌳 Concerns about implementation challenges voiced by industries, particularly regarding the complexity of tracing supply chains. 🌳 Strong opposition from countries affected by the regulation, citing concerns over economic impact. 🌳 Even some EU member states have expressed worries about the potential harm to sustainable and small-scale farming practices within the region. At Brainforest, we believe that effective and enforceable measures are urgently needed to protect our forests and biodiversity. Delays like this only underscore the importance of accelerating solutions that promote transparency and accountability in supply chains. The question remains—how long can we afford to wait? 🧐 On our end, we will continue to support solutions like Orijin—a Brainforest portfolio company—who try to simplify the process to becoming EUDR compliant for the Coffee & Cocoa market. 🌍 New Blog Post: The Global Land Squeeze – A Deep Dive into Its Impact 🌾 The global "land squeeze" is reshaping our agricultural landscape, affecting smallholder farmers and sustainable food systems. This phenomenon, driven by land grabbing, green grabbing, and urbanization, demands our attention. I've explored findings from the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems. Land consolidation is pushing smallholder farmers to the margins, with 1% of the largest farms now controlling 70% of all farmland. This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about real experiences from my travels to coffee farms and social enterprises around the globe. Insights: Land Grabbing and Green Grabbing: Financial actors and carbon offsetting schemes taking over farmland. Encroachment and Expansion: Agricultural land repurposed for mining and urban projects. Corporate Value Chains: Limiting farmers' autonomy and pushing unsustainable practices. These issues critically undermine small-scale food producers and pose significant threats to global food security. We need policies and practices that support smallholder farmers and protect our environment. Join the conversation on creating a more equitable and sustainable food system. Your thoughts and comments are welcome! #SustainableAgriculture #LandRights #FoodSecurity #SmallholderFarmers #SustainableFoodSystems #Agroecology https://lnkd.in/gpdn4zYk

Food systems account for between one-third and one-half of global emissions. But a new report shows that solutions exist to cut them dramatically — and the investments required are within reach. Indeed, investments of about $205 billion a year, or 2% of global food systems revenues, could slash emissions by nearly half and unlock new opportunities for food companies. Alessio Perrone takes a look at the report. The report was a partnership with the Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU), the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the We Mean Business Coalition. #agriculture #food #report

The SDGs serve as a blueprint for a better and more sustainable future. Many of these goals, such as ending poverty, achieving zero hunger, and promoting sustainable agriculture, are directly linked to post harvest management. By prioritizing the efficient handling, processing, and distribution of food, we can contribute to the achievement of these goals. Investing in post harvest management also strengthens food security and improves access to nutritious food for all.
