Antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest threats to global health, and the time to act is now! 🌍💊 In today’s op-ed in Göteborgs-Posten, 👉 Otto Cars Professor Emeritus in Infectious Diseases at Uppsala University and founder of ReAct - Action on Antibiotic Resistance 👉 Daniel Carelli, Postdoctoral Researcher in Political Science at Chalmers University of Technology 👉 Anna Zorzet, PhD in Medical Microbiology and Strategic Process Leader at the Centre for Health Crises, Karolinska Institutet and 👉 Nina Viberg PhD in Medical Science at the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health, Karolinska Institutet and former policy officer on antimicrobial resistance at the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, call for urgent action. 🇸🇪 As the Swedish government reviews post-2025 strategies, the authors propose a comprehensive ‘Antibiotic Boost’ with three key measures: 1️⃣ Stronger political coordination: Engage the entire government and establish a high-level coordination group. 2️⃣ Clearer policy framework: Create a structured strategy with measurable goals and independent oversight. 3️⃣ Enhanced global aid: Intensify support in low- and middle-income countries through strategic alliances. 🌍✨ As 2024 wraps up, we’re proud to share highlights from a year of action on antibiotic resistance: 🔹 Policy Engagement: 👉🏾 Advocated at the UN High-Level Meeting in New York. 👉🏾 Participated in the AMR meeting in Jeddah to strengthen global collaboration. 🔹 Global Campaign: 👉🏾 Launched "From People to Leaders: Act on AMR NOW!", mobilizing communities and civil society groups worldwide. 🔹 Regional Impact: 👉🏾 Africa: Co-hosted the 9th Regional AMR Conference in Zambia and launched the Youth AMR Alliance. 👉🏾 Asia-Pacific: United 19 countries in Indonesia to advance One Health. 👉🏾 Latin America: Collaborated with @pahowho on community empowerment and introduced the "Charter of the Invisibles" in Colombia. 🔹 We also shared our vision on ITN Business's news-style TV-programme "Defending Our Health: Unravelling Antimicrobial Resistance," amplifying our call for global action on AMR.
