The GoDown Arts Centre is home to Kenyan creativity in arts and media.
About us
The GoDown Arts Centre is home to Kenyan creativity in arts and culture. Established in 2003, in a space that was formerly a car repair warehouse, the centre has contributed significantly to the growth, recognition and visibility of local artist by fostering and facilitating collaborations and encounters between artists from different disciplines and parts of the world. For 15 years the GoDown has served as a home, workplace, meeting place and address for artists, and has contributed to their stability, legitimacy, visibility and creative confidence. The strength of the GoDown as one of Kenya's leading centres for arts and culture lies in its diverse programming: the training and development of artists, alongside sector impacting events such as the East Africa Arts summit, the Creative Entrepreneurship and Copyright courses, and local events such as Dunda Mtaani, Nai Ni Who and the GoDownGig. Now the GoDown plans to transform itself into one of East Africa's leading contemporary arts complexes, and to significantly expand its role as an open, accessible community space for Kenyans.

The GoDown Arts Centre is proud to announce that we are one of three winners of the Healthy Cities Challenge! Our winning proposal is a tactical urbanism project along Dunga Road in Nairobi. The tactical urbanism project will validate the vision created by women and girls from the community to transform Dunga and Dundori Roads into safer and more inclusive public spaces. Our winning proposal is part of the wider GoDown Transformation Project to scale up the arts centre and regenerate the neighbourhood. Nairobi City County has partnered with The GoDown, recognising it as a flagship project in its integrated development plan 2023-2027. The tactical urbanism activities will engage community in introducing temporary interventions along Dunga road, to pilot the use of the street as a shared resource for cultural, social and commercial activities. They will work with artists to create a vibrant street experience in which active mobility and safety will be enhanced. WEBINAR INFORMATION To learn more about The GoDown’s win, we invite you to join the upcoming City Health Talk Webinar on Shaping Green and Healthy Neighbourhoods hosted by Novo Nordisk. • Date: 17th December 2024 • Time: 5:00 – 6:15 PM EAT (3:00 – 4:15 PM CET) • Registration: https://shorturl.at/2uRcO The GoDown is grateful to our partners at the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) , UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) for the Her City Toolkit, and the Nairobi City County for their support.
