The government of Bangladesh plans to recycle 50% of plastics by 2025, according to the report ‘Towards a multisectoral action plan for sustainable plastic management in Bangladesh. In this context, BRAC’s PLEASE Project, in collaboration with BRAC Youth Platform's Amra Notun Network, arranged a plastic upcycling fair titled, ‘Waste to Wonder’ in Cox’s Bazar recently. Mohammad Rafiqul Haque, administrator of Cox’s Bazar Municipality, and Asif Saleh, Executive Director, BRAC, were present at the fair. The event brought together seventy young participants who transformed plastic waste into innovative products, capturing the attention of both locals and tourists. BRAC is the 2023 Regional Block Grantee, implementing the project in Bangladesh. PLEASE Project is taking action by creating community-driven solutions and nurturing change agents to tackle the plastic crisis at Cox’s Bazar. The project is developing a model waste management system there. A new recycling facility is on the way to help combat plastic pollution in Cox's Bazar.

Improving young people’s well-being requires more than just classroom lessons. It takes the whole community. 🏫 That’s why the new partnership between BRAC, a key partner in the Right Here Right Now programme, and Bangladesh’s Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education is so promising. 🤝 This collaboration focuses on implementing the ‘Whole School Approach’ to address issues like early pregnancies, lack of menstrual health education, and harmful gender stereotypes — challenges that hold young people back from reaching their full potential. 🌱 The approach isn’t just about supporting students – it’s about engaging teachers, parents, and community leaders to create lasting results. Building on the earlier successes with this approach in Uganda and Kenya we’re expecting to soon see positive changes for students in these schools. 👉 Learn more about the power of collective action with the ‘Whole School Approach’ and the new partnership 🔗 https://shorturl.at/Tp9vP #BRAC #RutgersInternational #RightHereRightNow #SRHR #Bangladesh #WholeSchoolApproach

“Bangladesh is the canary in the coal mine." With 67% of deaths now caused by non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and a staggering 76 days of extreme heat recorded last year, the country’s healthcare system is being tested like never before. While 80% of Bangladeshis live within a 30-minute walk of a clinic, these facilities often lack the resources to meet the growing demand. Investing in primary healthcare systems can transform outcomes - like in Brazil, where strengthening community health worker programs boosted access to care by 450%. This isn’t just health policy, it’s a climate adaptation strategy. 👉 Discover why prevention is the most urgent priority in the op-ed by Asif Saleh from BRAC: https://lnkd.in/epiH8C6k #UniversalHealthCoverage #BRAC #PrimaryHealthcare #CommunityHealthcare #ClimateAndHealth
