Caring enough to slow down and pay attention to the unseen is one of the grandest forms of love. To be observant of the world’s curiosities is one thing, but to learn from them is to open an invitation of infinite possibility - one that lends hope towards a better future. It’s time to take notes from the natural world’s most talented creatives - watching and borrowing from the mysteries that these scientists and designers are constantly weaving, hiding in plain sight. 🫣 Some people in our world are actively listening. One of them is Marizio Montalti, cofounder of SQIM, a company collaborating with nature to design a fungal future. SQIM has two key strands of its business – MOGU, which creates acoustic panels and flooring made entirely of fungal mycelium and #ephea, a leather-like material that can be used in fashion and has already been adapted by Balenciaga for a coat in its AW22 collection.🍄 Learn more about how biology can help redesign the world in Parley for the Oceans latest Material Revolution interview. https://lnkd.in/gPgkTRaH V: @yeweijun98 & @laurent_nam

The fashion and construction industries face immense sustainability challenges, from over-extracting natural resources to severe environmental impacts during production. Fashion alone contributes 3-8% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and 9% of microplastic leakage into our oceans. Given brand sustainability pressures, the global appetite for alternative materials is on the rise, especially in the luxury sector. 👗 Meanwhile, the construction industry accounts for 39% of global carbon emissions, heavily relying on fossil-based materials and energy. Although the major challenges are in energy efficient infrastructure and carbon footprint of building materials such as concrete and steel, sustainability in interior design is a growing matter. 🛋 SQIM, is transforming these industries with breakthrough solutions rooted in mycelium — nature’s master recycler. 🍄 Using the unique biological properties of fungi, SQIM has developed a circular business model that converts residual substrates into high-value materials with minimal energy input. ⚡ Meet EPHEA™ and MOGU™: SQIM’s flagship innovations lead the charge in sustainable material development. 🌱 EPHEA™ is not just a leather alternative; it's a superior material that meets the highest luxury standards. With a focus on reducing waste, it offers a sustainable option for fashion and accessory industries without compromising on quality. 🎶 MOGUTM️™ introduces acoustic panels and 100% bio-based flooring systems crafted entirely from mycelium and upcycled textile waste, providing a pioneering, eco-friendly choice for construction and interior design. Key Achievements with SQIM: ✅ 86% reduction in GHG emissions ✅ 100% biodegradable EPHEA raw materials ✅ 100% renewable energy-powered processes By merging science with sustainability, SQIM is driving meaningful change. Together we’re paving the way toward a more sustainable and circular economy, setting new standards in the materials sector. Together, we’re making a lasting impact on our planet. 🌍 #circulareconomy #greenbuilding #mycelium #innovation

What can #Fungi teach us? 🍄🟫 Fungi remind us that change is a natural part of life, and instead of resisting it, we can adapt and embrace regeneration. 🌍✨ Imagine if our actions contributed to a regenerative process instead of creating waste. Companies like SQIM are leading the way by using mycelium in design, emphasizing a symbiotic and collaborative relationship over extractive practices. Curious to learn how fungi can guide us toward a more equitable and just fashion future? Check out our latest article written by Aisling Gogan and Virginia Rollando: https://lnkd.in/ei_4cv4u

🎉 Celebrating the conclusion of the MY-FI project at the second ECOSYSTEX Conference! Today marked a significant milestone as the MY-FI project held its final conference, where we highlighted exciting opportunities to enhance supply chain sustainability through the adoption of biobased materials. In the morning, Annalisa Moro from MOGU had the opportunity to share and disseminate valuable insights from the project with all participants of the ECOSYSTEX conference. This was a fantastic moment to reflect on the progress made by the MY-FI project in developing an innovative mycelium-based material, paving the way for more sustainable solutions in the luxury fashion and automotive industries. During a thought-provoking panel discussion moderated by Amy Congdon, PhD from Biofabricate, we were joined by Annalisa Moro, María García Torreiro, Silvia Gava (MOGU), Paola Bologna, Claudia Ricciardi (Bird & Bird), Tiziano Guardini (Guardini), Vito Colacurcio (Giorgio Armani), and Federico Brugnoli (Spin360). Together, we explored the latest in regulations, ecodesign, and biobased solutions shaping the future of fashion. 👗🌍 Huge thanks to ECOSYSTEX and Textile ETP for fostering collaboration and driving innovation throughout this incredible journey! #Sustainability #BiobasedMaterials #FashionInnovation #MYFI #ECOSYSTEX
