Hydrocell was founded in 2019 by visionaries Karl Manfredi, Federico Giudiceandrea, and Walter Huber. Years ago, Huber had already established the first hydrogen production and refueling station in Europe, located in Bolzano, marking a significant milestone in the industry. With over 25 years of experience in the hydrogen sector, this passion has now taken shape in Hydrocell, a cutting-edge company in the field. Hydrocell is a system integrator, dedicated to the development of integrated systems for the production, distribution, storage, and use of hydrogen. The Vision is: MAKING SHIPPING & TRANSPORT CO2-FREE WITH THE HELP OF HYDROGEN. The company's primary focus is the creation of the first certified hydrogen powertrain with the own developed control unit. Among the most exciting areas is the maritime sector, highlighted by the refitting project of the fishing boat Nobody’s Perfect, a historic 17-meter vessel built in 1978 in Bordeaux. Nobody’s Perfect will be the first to host a hydrogen engine managed by a control unit designed by Hydrocell, representing a significant milestone for the industry.

A new hydrogen refueling station for heavy traffic was inaugurated last Friday at the Port of Gothenburg, strategically located at Gate 6, right next to the Gothenburg RoRo Terminal. With one of Sweden's busiest truck flows, this is a significant step towards a more sustainable future for the transport sector. Operated by Hydri, the station exclusively supplies green hydrogen, with the capacity to refuel up to 35 trucks per day. This initiative paves the way towards a carbon-neutral transport sector, supporting the shift to both electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles in the port. As Stena Line plans to relocate its current Germany and Denmark terminals to Arendal, just west of the RoRo terminal, the number of vehicles in the area is expected to increase even further. "The large flow of trucks to the port and the possibility to refuel work machines make this hydrogen refueling station's location optimal. Combined with several existing charging stations around the port, the heavy land traffic in the Port of Gothenburg is now fully ready for a transition to both electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles," says Viktor Allgurén, Head of Innovation at the Port of Gothenburg.
