[OUR CITIES ROCK] ❓Did you know that the City of Differdange is the only city in Luxembourg to have been selected as one of the 112 of the "Climate Neutral and Smart Cities" mission? 🔎 Differdange, with its about 30.000 inhabitants, is the third biggest town in Luxembourg located in the south of the country in the border triangle with Belgium and France. Since the 19th century, Differdange has shown its strength with the start of industrialization with local mining operations and one of Luxembourg’s biggest blast furnaces. With its economic development, Differdange offered to be a new home for people from all around the world with 118 nationalities making up more than 50 percent of the population. Diversity comes with socioeconomic challenges, which Differdange had to manage in its past and which are a factor in reaching climate neutrality goals. 👏 These are some of the reasons that made Patrick Child, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission for the Environment, to visit it earlier this week. It was also the occasion to talk about CLIMABOROUGH and its main local challenge in our project: producing locally and sustainably 100% of its need in electricity (excluding industry consumption) with the participation of its population and private sector by 2030. 🔧[OUR SOLUTIONS] 🔓 "We need to improve the reuse of products, well before those become #waste". Torino's journey on CLIMABOROUGH started from this statement that is going well beyond a simple slogan as today the city (cc torinoeuprojects I Torino City Lab) launched the solutions selected by our #tender. The two consortia that will work with the city and AMIAT on very ambitious experimentations around #circularity on #WEEE and #textile are: 👉 Rivestito (Mercato Circolare I Atelier Riforma I Huulke) aims to make the collection of textile products in the city of Turin transparent and efficient and to direct them towards the most suitable methods of valorization, encouraging a local virtuous circle of circular economy. 👉 TRACCIA-TO (Erion I ReLearn I ERICA - Educazione Ricerca Informazione Comunicazione Ambientale) aims to raise awareness among citizens and businesses about good circular practices and correct waste disposal methods. The project will provide the City with an innovative methodology to quantify the flows of textile waste produced in the area, also intercepting those disposed in unsorted waste or forgotten in closets. 💡[UPCOMING WEBINAR] 💡 The two EU projects NEUTRALPATH project and CLIMABOROUGH, funded under the Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Mission, organize together a first webinar to bring together 19 cities across Europe. This session will and the participation of Urban Transitions Mission Centre (UTMC). The webinar will discuss how #Energy #poverty is a critical issue affecting millions of households, leading to significant social and economic challenges. 🔋𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆? While financial measures are necessary in addressing energy poverty, there is a need for behavioural change strategies, rooted in the social context.
