December is a season of intense shopping activity, driven by the tradition of gift-giving, which prompts people to make purchases both in-store and online. Now that this bustling period has come to an end, it’s time to reflect on the key transactions that took place in Portugal between December 1st and 24th. 🎁🛍️ According to data from #SIBSAnalytics: 👉 Consumption grew again, with a 15% increase in the number and value of purchases made between 1st and 24th December in comparison with 2023; 👉 #MBWAY continues to be one of consumers' favourite choices, with an increase in transactions of 43% and 44% for physical and online purchases respectively; 👉 In the Top 3 days with the greatest variation in the number of purchases vs. the daily average, December 20 and December 21 also stand out (+13% on both); 👉 Online shopping continued its upward trend, accounting for 21% in value and 19% in number of all purchases made between December 1st and 24th, an increase of 30% in number and 36% in value compared to the previous year. These 15 years abroad represent: 👉 330k POS terminals and 6,700 ATM worldwide; 👉 1.2 million active mobile wallet users. Last week, SIBS organised its Open Day inviting students from Nova School of Business and Economics to visit the office and get to know more about our business and feel the innovative spirit is leaved on site! 🎓 During the session, the group of nine students participated in the "Get to Know SIBS" quiz, gaining a dynamic insight into what SIBS does, where it operates, and its key metrics. Today, Teresa Mesquita, SIBS' Chief Operations Officer, participated in TRUSTECH Event 2024 in Paris - the global annual meeting for professionals in the field of technology, namely innovative payments and identification solutions. 💳 During the roundtable discussion titled "Europe of Payments: What are the Main Strategies in the Field of Sovereignty?", which Teresa Mesquita participated in, the critical role of payment sovereignty was emphasised as a strategy to bolster European independence. This discussion has gained even greater relevance against the backdrop of the current geopolitical instability and economic challenges impacting both retailers and consumers. This session, moderated by Andréa Toucinho, brought together esteemed experts, including: Alex Stervinou, Director of Study and Payment Surveillance of Banque de France; Martina Weimert, EPI's CEO; Carlo Bovero BNP Paribas's Director of Innovative Card and Payment Solutions and Pierre Chassigneux b.connect's CEO. The #BlackFriday is one of the biggest consumer events of the year, marking the time when shoppers take advantage of the best deals and promotions. The darkest Friday of the year turns into a true shopping marathon, both online and in physical stores, where transactions are typically higher than usual! 🛍️ #SIBSAnalytics analysed this year's #BlackFriday results in terms of purchases and consumer trends, which showed that: 👉 The number of online and in-store purchases made with #MBWAY increased by 85% and 42%, respectively, compared to the same period last year; 👉 The average amount spent was €49, which is €3.60 more compared the daily average spent on the other days of November, and €8.10 more compared to last year November's daily average.
