Sobre nós
'Cities After Dark' is a European project under the URBACT programme involving the cities of Braga (Portugal), Paris (France), Tallinn (Estonia), Varna (Bulgaria), Genoa (Italy), Malaga (Spain), Nicosia (Cyprus), Piraeus (Greece), Zadar (Croatia) and Budva (Montenegro). The project is led by the city of Braga. The night-time economy is made up of activities that are essential for a city to function 24 hours a day and play a significant role in the global economy. It covers diverse sectors such as mobility, entertainment, hospitality, emergency services, security, logistics, services, etc Nightlife is an important factor for tourism in many cities, which faces various challenges such as safety, regulation and environmental impacts (noise and light pollution). It is up to the authorities to balance the development of the night-time economy with the quality of life of residents. The night-time economy is dynamic and has a significant impact on urban life. It offers economic, cultural and social opportunities, but also requires careful management to deal with its specific challenges.

🌍 Day 2 of the URBACT Transnational Meeting in Nicosia Municipality was a fantastic blend of learning, collaboration, and community engagement! 🚀 We started the day with an insightful visit to the CYENS Centre of Excellence, a hub for innovation in Interactive Media, Smart Systems, and Emerging Technologies. CYENS is leading the way in Cyprus when it comes to immersive technologies, playing a crucial role in advancing knowledge and tech transfer throughout the region. Truly inspiring! 🎯 In our working sessions, we explored how to better incorporate the creation of new business ventures and services into our Integrated Action Plans (IAPs) and night-time policies. It was a productive time of teamwork, where we reviewed business ideas and provided peer feedback on each other's IAP drafts, always keeping the Cities After Dark principles at the forefront. Then, each partner gave a brief presentation on the development progress of their IAP and we set up smaller groups to assess the state of play, share challenges and debate solutions, promoting an open exchange of ideas and experiences. Afterwards, we had the opportunity to explore Nicosia’s city center, deepening our understanding of the local context and the challenges faced by businesses, particularly regarding night-time activities. This on-the-ground experience was essential to complement our discussions on how to develop sustainable solutions. The day ended with a bang at the #INSPIRE Festival on Makariou Avenue, where we joined a public panel discussion on the night-time economy and entrepreneurship. We even took part in a podcast recording focused on these themes, proudly representing the Cities After Dark initiative. 🎙️✨ Through URBACT, we continue to work hand-in-hand to shape dynamic, sustainable night-time economies across our cities.
