These days, KN Energies marks two significant milestones that underscore the importance of the Klaipėda LNG terminal in Lithuania's energy independence journey: 🔟 10 years since the start of commercial operations. To date, 474 LNG operations have been carried out, highlighting Klaipėda LNG terminal as a vital pillar of energy security in the region. 8️⃣ 8 years since the first small-scale LNG operation. This milestone marked the terminal’s evolution into not only a multi-user but also a multi-service facility, with 269 small-scale LNG operations successfully completed to date. Last year, the FSRU Independence was adorned with the Weathervane of Freedom, created to commemorate a decade of the terminal’s contribution to Lithuania’s energy independence. ✨ 📽️ As we celebrate these milestones, we invite you to rediscover the terminal’s significance through a special video decoding the Weathervane of Freedom, originally created for the FSRU Independence handover ceremony.

On 6 December, an official ceremony marked the formal handover of ownership of the FSRU Independence to Lithuania 🇱🇹 and its registration in the Register of Seagoing Ships of the Republic of Lithuania, which was marked by the raising of the national flag 🇱🇹 aboard the vessel and the unveiling of its new home port - Klaipėda ⚓. The vessel, which arrived in Klaipėda exactly 10 years ago, ensures the country's and the region's energy independence 💡. Darius Šilenskis, CEO of the FSRU’s new owner, KN Energies, states that the timely decision to operate the terminal has already proven beneficial for Lithuania, not only in terms of energy security 🔒 but also financially 💶. "Since the LNG terminal began operations, Lithuanian gas consumers have saved an average of EUR 160 million annually due to cheaper gas. The successful implementation of the LNG terminal project in Lithuania has allowed our company to establish an international reputation and solidify KN's position as a professional and reliable LNG terminal operator and project developer on the world map. When other European countries, which were still dependent on Russia, began searching for solutions, usually requiring significant time resources to achieve changes in the energy market, Lithuania remained stable, as it started its energy independence journey already in 2014 with the commissioning of the LNG terminal in Klaipėda," notes D. Šilenskis. The President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda attended the FSRU Independence transfer of ownership ceremony along with the Presidents of Poland, Estonia and Latvia. The guests were also greeted by the former President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, Acting Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė, and Acting Vice Minister at Ministry of Energy of Lithuania Inga Žilienė.
