A historic moment for European space exploration! On 9 July at 16:00 local time at the Kourou Space Centre, French Guiana (20:00 BST, 21:00 CEST), Europe's new heavy-lift rocket, Ariane 6, successfully lifted off on its maiden flight. Ariane 6 is the latest addition to the Ariane rocket series, replacing Ariane 5 and featuring a modular and versatile design capable of missions in both low orbits and deep space. This launch marks a new era for Europe's access to space. The inaugural launch is a major milestone that has required the efforts of thousands of people over the years. To see it realised on the first attempt is a testament to the dedication and a demonstration of European excellence in engineering and technology. On June 6, 2024, at 7:50 a.m. CT, Starship took off from Starbase in Texas with ambitious goals and exceeded all expectations. ✨ Highlights of the flight: 1.- Successful liftoff of the Super Heavy: Completed a full-duration ascent burn. 2.- Seamless hot separation: Shut down all but three of the Super Heavy's Raptor engines and ignited all six second stage Raptor engines before separating the spacecraft. 3.- Precise manoeuvres and controlled landing: The Super Heavy performed its turn manoeuvre, back burn and soft splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico. The second stage followed its trajectory into space and achieved a controlled re-entry.
