With 2024 coming to an end, I can hardly believe it has already been four months since I joined Serco in Europe. When people ask about my first impressions, the answer is simple: it has been humbling. I have seen first-hand the public service ethos that runs through everything we do. The pride our colleagues take in supporting our customers and serving their communities really stands out. It is a privilege to lead and work alongside such a committed team. 2025 will bring its share of challenges and opportunities, it always does, but I know we will face them together with the same energy and dedication I have seen so far. We had an incredible time at this year's NSE ExpoForum 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 in Rome, showcasing our commitment to advancing the space sector and connecting with professionals from across the industry. Here are some highlights from our presence at the event: 🛰️ 𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 A standout moment was our talk '𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼: 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲', delivered by Cristiano De Vincenti and Lidia Saavedra de Miguel. Today's visit to the European Astronaut Center (#ESA #EAC) was truly enlightening. I explored the training facilities where astronauts gear up for missions to the ISS and visited the Luna analog facility, simulating the lunar surface to aid in future Moon mission preparations. The highlight was engaging with a European Communicator and Medical Operations (EUROCOM) expert, overseeing European voice communications between the Columbus Flight Control Team and the ISS crew. 🚀 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗡 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 From 3 to 5 December, we had the privilege of attending the UN World Space Forum held in Bonn, Germany, represented by our Space Sales Manager Mathilde Morée. This event brought together space leaders, agencies, and industry pioneers to tackle critical topics such as: 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, and 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 🛰️ 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱: • The importance of 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 on climate resilience, space governance, and sustainability. • Inspiring examples like the Philippine Space Agency and European Space Agency - ESA’s Copernicus mirror site, enabling local impact. • Saudi Arabia’s focus on a 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼-𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗶𝘀 future and fostering human capabilities in the sector. • Industry innovation from UAE’s Space42 and Germany’s OHB SE and Vyoma, paving the way for advanced solutions in AI, disaster relief, and collision avoidance. We also joined the technical tours at European Astronaut Centre and DLR, exploring the Lunar lab and operations centre – a glimpse into the future of space exploration! A huge thank you to the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), German Aerospace Center (DLR), the UAE Space Agency and Agencia Espacial del Perú - CONIDA for hosting this impactful forum and facilitating such critical discussions. We would like to congratulate our customer the European Space Agency - ESA for the successful launch of the 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥-𝟭𝐂 𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲! 🛰️ We are grateful to be part of the teams that contributed to the successful launch of Sentinel-1C satellite. As part of the COP-2 operations service contract, the Serco-led consortium took on significant responsibilities, including the participation to the preparation and execution of simulations, as well as the launch and early orbit phase (LEOP). The consortium worked closely with the European Space Agency (ESA) to deliver essential end-to end services, including flight control, flight dynamics, collision avoidance, data systems, and ground operations. We are proud of all of our colleagues who contributed to this successful launch.
