I believe it’s essential to create an environment where our team feels comfortable sharing that they are stressed in the first place, along with what triggers that stress. Stress can build up when we have too much on our plates or feel out of control (both at work or in personal life). In those moments, I encourage everyone to identify their stressors and draft a few steps to tackle them. It’s important to remember that we won’t always be able to handle everything, and that’s okay! Having a brief plan helps us prioritize, feel more prepared, and boosts our confidence. By promoting this approach regularly, we can learn to recognize our stress triggers and build resilience while focusing on what truly matters.

Solicit Feedback: Regularly ask for input on stressors and suggestions for improvement, demonstrating that their opinions matter. By implementing these strategies, you can help your team develop the resilience they need to thrive even under stress.

Sometimes all it needs is a little getaway. Take them out for a dinner or place other than your office space, trust me this works. I have exercised this and many times advised businesses to do the same which worked for them. Changing the environment even for a short while can help boost the team moral and reduce their stress levels. Encouraging them to go Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD) will help focus them on taking on challenging situations followed up by some rewards and recognitions and highlighting those who have shown commendable abilities and built skills.

Distinguish Control: Guide the team in distinguishing between what they can control and what is beyond their control. Take Action on Controllable Stressors: Motivate them to take concrete steps to address the stressors within their influence. Release Uncontrollable Stress: Encourage the team to let go of stress factors they cannot change. Remind of Temporary Nature: Reassure the team that the stressful situation is not permanent and that things will eventually stabilize. Promote Self-Care: Support the team in engaging in stress-relieving activities and self-care practices to maintain their well-being.

En primer lugar es básico que exista una buena organización de las labores cotidianas por parte del equipo de gestión. Ser realistas a la hora de establecer tiempos para la realización de dichas tareas. Al fin y al cabo marcar objetivos inalcanzables genera impotencia y frustración en los trabajadores ya que piensan que no son capaces de realizar sus tareas. Por otro lado, es fundamental que haya una buena comunicación empresarial, reuniones grupales que fortalecen las relaciones del equipo. Personalmente es algo que haría a diario antes de empezar la jornada. Y por supuesto saber ESCUCHAR y empatizar y fomentar el buen ambiente laboral y no la competitividad.

To empower my team to build resilience and coping strategies amidst overwhelming stress, I start by fostering an open environment where team members feel safe discussing their challenges. I also promote a healthy work-life balance by encouraging breaks and flexible schedules. Recognizing achievements, both big and small, helps boost morale. Additionally, I facilitate team-building activities to strengthen relationships and resilience, creating a supportive culture that enables everyone to navigate stress more effectively.

Coping with work-place stress is a tale as old as time which is why it is such an important topic to consider! What has been personally beneficial to me is adopting a mindfulness practice of some kind - mindfulness practices come in a variety of colors and flavors. I share this with my friends and peers that practicing mindfulness can naturally diffuse stress. A lot of our panic, worry, and dissociation comes from an inability to focus; if we start practicing 5-10 minutes of mindfulness a day (journaling, meditation, breathing, mindful walking) this can give us a jumpstart on how we take back our day and our productivity in the office.

To empower a team to build resilience while in stress, the collaborative and supportive environment is of course a need of a time to have but to succeed and overcome from the stress in said environment, clarity in communicating the goals is the key since it gives direction to the team on what to achieve. Moreover providing the flexibility to reach to the finish line by giving an ownership to the team and once reached celebrate it.
