ESG targets and compensation – valuable strategy or political agenda? My colleague Pierre Chaigneau’s work explaining why ESG-based executive compensation is not necessary was featured in The CoBS (Council on Business & Society) & Harvard Business School's special issue on climate change! Pierre’s research found that executives are motivated to make ESG-supportive investments even when their compensation is not especially sensitive to ESG ratings. For those firms still interested in incorporating ESG targets in managerial compensation plans, Pierre suggests they should at least use full ESG ratings and those from more than one firm.
