As a company that prioritises collaboration, innovation, and sustainability, we cannot continue to be part of this environment. While this decision wasn’t taken lightly, it feels like the right move for LGI and our vision of sustainable innovation. 🌍 This week, LGI was active at the EU #RawMaterialsWeek, because we believe raw materials need to be at the center of the sustainability discussion. The extraction and processing of raw materials is the largest global contributor to climate change and biodiversity collapse, and the amount of raw materials consumed globally has more than tripled in the last 50 years. Achieving a net zero economy will also require dramatically increasing supplies of critical minerals like copper, cobalt, and rare earth elements. Simply put, a paradigm shift in the way that we produce and consume raw materials is needed to preserve life on our planet. ⚡ LGI has teamed up with world leaders from industry, academia, and the public sector to drive the shift towards a more responsible and circular use of our planet's finite resources. Here are just a few of the ways the projects LGI supports on display at Raw Materials Week are driving sustainable innovation in the raw materials sector: The SCRREEN project brings together a network of global experts to monitor the supply and demand of raw materials and support the European Commission in determining which materials should be labelled as critical The MaDiTraCe PROJECT is enabling verifiable responsible sourcing by developing traceability solutions for critical raw materials within digital product passports The EIS_HorizonEU project is developing open source data analysis tools to help exploration geologists more effectively map critical mineral deposits The AfricaMaVal project is strengthening ties between EU and African partners and identifying environmentally and socially responsible investment opportunities along the entire value chain of critical minerals ✨ Stay tuned to learn more about the latest innovations in the field of responsible raw material production and circular economy!
