Introducing the first ever LEO connectivity solution for healthcare in South Africa 🩺 Our local partner, Q-KON together with Gijima, has successfully installed our Eutelsat OneWeb low Earth orbit internet connectivity at the remote Platinum Health Modikwa Clinic in South Africa. The clinic is one of 23 healthcare facilities run by Platinum Health - a medical facility and healthcare provider which specialises in meeting the needs of employees and their families in the platinum and chrome mining sector. Q-KON’s unique Twoobii-OneWeb solution has been developed on the global OneWeb constellation with additional network integration, quality-of-service profiles and service level delivery requirements in order to meet the needs of South African enterprises. This specific solution for Platinum Health has been integrated with Gijima’s core network to ensure minimal latency, and provide visibility to the Gijima managed services team. This new service has delivered substantial improvements to traditional services at the clinic, including reduced latency, a reliable and fast connection, and an absence of downtime. Commenting on the installation, Hendrik Bezuidenhout, Q-KON Account Director, said: “The Twoobii-OneWeb LEO solution provided together with Gijima to Platinum Health provides for a fully managed and tightly integrated WAN link that meets the requirement for a reliable always-on, anywhere broadband option with applications in emergency disaster response, healthcare training, health education and disease management strategies – all of which are especially relevant to South Africa’s mining industry.” We are proud to be working with our local partners to make a positive change to lives of those working in remote locations in South Africa.

We’ve selected Airbus Defence and Space to build the first batch of our next generation of OneWeb LEO satellites 🛰️ Under the contract, Airbus will build the first batches of the extension, totalling 100 satellites, with delivery targeted to start at the end of 2026. The satellites are set to contain several technology upgrades, including 5G on-ground integration. They will also contain technology that is compatible with Europe’s IRIS² constellation, paving the way for its entry into operational service in 2030, and of which Eutelsat will be the main architect and operator of the LEO segment. Commenting on this milestone, Eva Berneke, Chief Executive Officer of Eutelsat Group, said: "We are relying on our long-standing partner, Airbus, to begin building the first batches of the Next Generation of our OneWeb LEO constellation, which will ensure we deliver continuity of service of the existing constellation with enhanced service features, as we move towards an architecture in line with the IRIS² constellation in 2030. “Our in-market experience shows us that the appetite for low Earth orbit capacity is growing rapidly, and we are excited to embark on the next stage of our journey to satisfy that demand.” You can find out more about this agreement on our website via the link in the comments section, below ⤵️

Today, we celebrate the signing of the IRIS² agreement at the European Commission. This public-private partnership between the EU, European Space Agency - ESA and the SpaceRISE consortium, marks the launch of an ambitious project that will reshape the future of European space through a sovereign, autonomous, multi-layer, and multi-mission constellation 🛰️ IRIS² also represents a key step in Eutelsat Group’s strategy to develop and expand our low Earth orbit (LEO) capacity, and the extension of our existing OneWeb constellation will be technologically compatible with the future IRIS2 assets. As a key member of the SpaceRISE consortium, we will bring our unique LEO expertise to address the technological and commercial challenges of the next decade. We are excited to collaborate with the European Union, European Space Agency, and our consortium partners. Together, we are building the future of European space. Commenting on this landmark for the European space industry, Eva Berneke, Chief Executive Officer of Eutelsat Group, said: "IRIS² is more than a historic contract; it is the foundation of a sovereign, multi-layer constellation that strengthens Europe’s space industry and reinforces its strategic autonomy. “At Eutelsat, we are proud to bring our unique LEO expertise to this ground-breaking project to help deliver a transformative communications backbone that bridges the digital divide, supports critical connectivity needs, and ensures Europe’s remains among the global leaders in space.” You can find out more about the IRIS² project on our website via the link in the comments, below ⤵️

We've been expanding Eutelsat Group's solar energy capacity ☀️ Following an announcement earlier this year, we're proud to confirm the completion of major milestones in our program to implement renewable energy solutions at several of our Teleport sites operated directly by Eutelsat. All of the solar panel systems installed and commissioned at our sites are now fully operational and operating at nominal capacity. This important initiative has seen systems installed at the sites of Turin and Cagliari in Italy, Caniçal on the island of Madeira and our sites at Hermosillo and Iztapalapa in Mexico. The total annual solar energy capacity available from these systems has reached 2,000,000 kWh, capable of supplying 7.41% of Eutelsat Group's annual electricity consumption. This represents a very important step towards delivering our commitment to a 50% absolute reduction in our Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2030. A huge congratulations to all the teams involved and particularly to our operations teams working at the teleports 💚

"This will be a turning point in the narrative towards a more sustainable use of space" 💚 Those are the words of Sara Mugnaini, Eutelsat OneWeb's Manager of Advanced Technologies and Engineering, speaking about the ELSA-M Programme to advance space sustainability. ELSA-M is a joint mission with our Project Sunrise partners at Astroscale, the UK Space Agency and the European Space Agency - ESA. The project is set to demonstrate the world's first commercial space debris removal mission in 2026, helping to retrieve and de-orbit satellites that could potentially require assistance. At Eutelsat Group, we are committed to the responsible use of space, and our work alongside our Sunrise Partnership colleagues is one part of a continual journey toward sustainable space that requires constant efforts together with the wider space community.
