Our brilliant Head of Sustainability, Dr. Ramana Gudipudi, recently spoke at a panel on "Effective Net-Zero Strategies" at the Sustainable Business Roundtable organized by ESMT Berlin. The panel, alongside Nicki de Silva from Reckitt and Kim Schoppink from Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), explored key topics around #corporatedecarbonization. Check out the high-level insights from the panel below 👇
While the outcomes of #COP29 may have left much to be desired from a government perspective, it’s encouraging to see non-state actors like companies stepping up and taking meaningful #climateaction. The needle of #decarbonization is moving—albeit not at the pace we need—and it’s the collective efforts of #businesses that are creating this momentum. I recently had the privilege of attending the Sustainable Business Roundtable organized by ESMT Berlin on the topic "From Pledges to Progress: Effective Net-Zero Strategies." This incredible platform brought together companies from diverse sectors to exchange ideas, share challenges, and discuss best practices in driving #decarbonization and #sustainability forward. It was an honor to be part of a panel alongside Nicki de Silva from Reckitt and Kim Schoppink from Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), where we explored some of the most pressing topics shaping #corporatedecarbonization today, including: 📉 The science behind #corporatedecarbonization and its critical role in driving impactful change. 🛣️ The challenges companies face on their #netzero journeys—and actionable strategies to overcome them. 🔖 How SBTi is revising its Net-Zero Standard to enhance clarity and actionability for businesses. 💡 Reckitt’s pioneering #decarbonization journey together with CO2 AI, as shared by Nicki de Silva, including how leveraging #AI is identifying material #hotspots and fostering #innovation across their operations. A heartfelt thanks to Joanna Radeke and Keerthana Shekhar for organizing such a thoughtful and impactful event. 🚀 #Sustainability #Decarbonization #NetZero #ESMT #CorporateLeadership #InnovationForImpact #AI

As the world tuned into #COP29, the stakes were high. Expectations for groundbreaking agreements to address the escalating climate crisis. From advancing equity in climate financing to tackling systemic emissions, this summit promised action that matched the urgency of our times. So, what did #COP29 deliver? While some progress was made, the outcomes remind us that the road to climate solutions is neither straight nor easy. Here are three pivotal developments: 🌎 Green signal for a global carbon market For the first time, a global carbon market has been adopted under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. It will create two pathways for trading carbon offsets, enabling countries and companies to meet emission reduction targets outlined in their climate plans. While this is a commendable development, its execution was heavily criticized for being rushed through without adequate discussion on the first day of the summit. This raises a very important question - who gets the final word in climate decision-making? 🌱 Methane Greenwashing exposed in meat and dairy A report by the Changing Markets Foundation reveals that Big Meat and Dairy corporations are using greenwashing tactics to downplay their methane emissions. The analysis shows how national strategies in countries housing these corporations are falling short. The rush to report progress publicly and have a leg up over competitors should not lead to falsification of information. We always maintain - reduction > reporting. We need a big push for systemic changes in these industries to achieve genuine sustainability. 💰 Global fund for climate disasters finally takes shape A long-awaited Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) is finally gaining momentum in Baku. Agreed upon at COP27 after decades of resistance, the fund will channel much needed funds to lower-income countries grappling with climate-induced disasters. At COP29, Ibrahima Cheikh Diong, a seasoned development finance professional with experience across geographies, was appointed as its inaugural executive director. The fund aims to start distributing resources within the next year—a crucial step toward addressing the inequities of climate change and supporting vulnerable nations.
