📢 Have you read our recent report? 📢 A greener world requires greener energy. Greater ambition from companies, along with greater ambition from governments, will help achieve this. Earlier this year, CDP released its 2024 snapshot of corporate renewable electricity sourcing trends at COP29. Of almost 10,000 companies, only 16% were recognized for their use of renewable energy (RE). At the same time, regulations regarding mandatory disclosure are becoming stricter. To build a greener world, Scope 2 emissions disclosure needs to become part of business strategy. Companies responding to CDP are better placed to respond to future disclosure regulation and the increased scrutiny from investors this brings. ➡️Read the full report: https://ow.ly/UJ1X50U6TEg #Energy #RenewableEnergy #Electricity #CorporateTrends #EnergyGeneration #SustainableEconomy #EnergySourcing #Scope2 #Scope2Emissions #EmissionsDisclosure #CDP

Analysis of global companies’ climate risk perceptions reveals that transition risks, especially market and technology risks, are generally rated as more significant than physical risks. There are notable variations across sectors and over time. Over the past four years, the importance of all climate risks has increased, with sectors more directly dependent on climate and ecosystems placing higher importance on physical climate risks. At CDP, we’re proud to work with forward-thinking organizations to push the boundaries of climate action. That’s why we’re thrilled to share our latest collaborative blog from Jenny Ahlen, Managing Director for Net Zero at We Mean Business Coalition, and Sonya Bhonsle, Director of Strategic Accounts at CDP. The Key to tackling Scope 3 Emissions? Supplier Engagement. Using CDP's Supply Chain data, this blog reveals how companies are driving real progress on Scope 3 emissions by collaborating with suppliers. The facts: ✅ CDP Supply Chain engagement drove 43 million tonnes of emission reduction initiatives in 2023 alone ✅ Over 5,500 suppliers are suggesting ideas to their buyers through CDP’s Supply Chain Program, which could reduce a further 193 million tonnes in emissions ✅ Companies engaging suppliers through CDP are 6.6x more likely to set 1.5°C-aligned Scope 3 targets Access further insights by exploring CDP Supply Chain Program: https://lnkd.in/ekJbwHGM
🆕 With more and more companies opting to work closely with their suppliers to make inroads on scope 3 emissions, our new blog by Jenny Ahlen and Sonya Bhonsle, CDP looks at the correlation between buyer practices and supplier climate action. It reveals that buyers’ efforts are paying off - with suppliers that receive support from their corporate customers more likely to look at their climate risks, set emissions reduction targets, and reduce annual emissions. Climate action by suppliers is critical to enable corporations to meet their emissions goals and make global supply chains more resilient to climate-related pressures. When suppliers take action, the whole value chain benefits. Companies are using a range of tactics to engage suppliers, including large-scale supplier outreach, capacity-building and training, and incentive programs. While tackling emissions in the supply chain can be challenging, supplier engagement is an effective way to start and makes sense for both the climate and the bottom line. 🔗 Read more about the benefits of supplier engagement - and the tools and approaches to get started: https://lnkd.in/gXXmEHAX #SupplierEngagement

Is your company prepared to comply with the EU's Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD)? The more businesses learn about their suppliers and value chain partners, the more likely they can meet obligations under the CSDDD - impacting almost 7,000 companies in the European Union and abroad. 📢 As 2024 draws to a close, we’re celebrating the advances that have been made this year to streamline and remove barriers to reporting. The market is aligned on the solution: write once, use many. This approach ensures that organizations disclosing through CDP for many uses – from driving access to capital and enhancing business efficiency to compliance. CDP and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)’s renewed partnership, signed at #COP29, is a key example of progress made. We’re excited to be working together to streamline disclosure, boost access to comparable data and ensure that environmental reporting reflects the highest ambition. Looking ahead, CDP and GRI will collaborate and explore the best ways to increase alignment and build capacity for more and better disclosure. Here more from our CEO’s Sherry Madera and Cristina Gil White below ⬇️ #EnvironmentalDisclosure #Partnerships #CDP #GRI

The disclosure of environmental data by cities—home to more than half the world’s population and responsible for 70% of global emissions—is critical for ensuring global action and accountability on climate change. Bogotá is one of the cities leading the way, reporting its environmental impact and risks through CDP. This transparency earned Bogotá a spot on last year's CDP A-List. ➡️ Read about its journey to climate leadership in our latest case study: https://lnkd.in/e5Cb8xCp ➡️ Watch how the city is integrating nature-based solutions into its urban planning: https://lnkd.in/esHmJHZ5 euPOLIS #Disclosure #CDP #ClimateLeadership

🌍 CDP at INC-5: Advancing global action on plastic pollution 🌍 Last week CDP attended INC-5, the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee. This critical UN Environment Programme negotiation focused on developing a legally-binding international instrument to combat plastic pollution – one of the most urgent environmental crises we are facing. Unfortunately, an agreement was not reached. INC-5 was a reminder of several key facts: 💡 An ambitious, legally-binding treaty has enormous potential to propel the private sector towards meaningful accountability and change. 💡 A bold and ambitious treaty on plastics is no longer just a call from civil society—it’s a growing demand from the market. 💡 Despite awareness of the regulatory, reputational and physical risks, too few companies are acting on changing their reliance on plastics across their value chains. Collaboration and transparency remain key to driving meaningful action that will stem the growing tide of plastics pollution. Irrespective of the outcomes of the treaty, we encourage companies to take a critical step by disclosing data on their plastics impacts. A sustainable world will only be achievable if we foster transparency and accountability in our global economy. We look forward to INC-5.2, where we will be ready to champion an impactful and ambitious treaty.
