🗣 📣 Today at the Impact & Transition investor summit, i explained why Ardabelle Capital chose to focus our investment strategy on Scope 3?   As you know Scope 3 regroups all emissions in a company value chain, including supply chain and product usage by customer. Scope 3 is where the lion’s share of emissions sit. A few examples: -       Every year the fashion industry uses 93 billion cubic meters of water — enough to meet the consumption needs of five million people. -       Each year, Americans throw out more than 12 million tons of furniture, creating mountains of solid waste that have grown 450 percent since 1960   Scope 3 is where some of the most public climate commitments have been made, YET it is where there’s the biggest gap. Why?   Because today, Scope 3 is a vast world of mostly small to mid-market companies—critical players in these Big Guys’ value chains—yet they remain the 'forgotten child' of sustainability investing.   This is the market imperfection we’ve identified.   If they don’t transform, big guys can’t progress in Scope 3. Their public commitments fall apart, and they miss their targets—not by a minor 5 to 10%, but by 40 to 60%.  The reputational and regulatory consequences would be enormous. CEOs would be fined and fired. Market shares will be lost.   That’s why any Scope 3 company capable of a fast, meaningful transformation becomes a strategic gem. These companies will have bigger contracts, collect significant price premiums and win it all.   This is where Ardabelle is investing—positioning capital where the world is going.  Our obsession is to solve this “missing middle”. How? By sourcing those Scope 3 midcap players, investing in them, guiding and growing them to be the new champions needed by Big Consumer Companies (and the world!).   We are convinced that private equity can help by developing a greener supply chain for many industries.   We are at a pivotal moment. The choice for sustainability is no longer simply an option; it’s becoming essential to ensure the sustainability of companies, economies, and our society. This week at IPEM , Virginie Morgon spoke for Ardabelle, alongside David Blood of Generation Investment Management, Reynir Indahl of Summa Equity and Nino Tronchetti Provera of Ambienta. A question we discussed: What is missing from the market? What type of product do we need more of? For us, the “missing middle” of Capital investment is Climate Pure Play Private Equity buyouts focused on scaling solutions and aligning SMEs to a decarbonization trajectory and beyond, particularly in scope 3 emissions. Most current investments focus on scope 1 and 2, which is important, but transforming entire value chains—from chemicals to textiles to food ingredients—is a major challenge that isn’t being tackled systemically. Ardabelle aims to address this gap with a unique blend of expertise in private equity, operations, and sustainability. We focus on scope 3 opportunities that accelerate the transition of consumer brands, going beyond energy to address biodiversity, nature, waste and water. Our mission is to take portfolio companies from grey to green, with a robust Sustainable Value Creation Plan. We pioneer a horizontal value chain investment approach.
