🌱 Field Visit to Planadas, Tolima: Empowering Sustainable Coffee Production ☕ This week, the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) and our member organization and local partner Fundación Natura visited Planadas, Tolima in Colombia, as part of the CMAS project. Planadas, a region renowned for producing some of the world’s highest-quality coffee, welcomed us to meet with community monitors, local coffee producer associations, and the local government. During this visit, we shared the progress of the CMAS project and explored the immense potential of community-based monitoring and assurance for strengthening sustainable practices and coffee production. The CMAS model integrates best sustainability practices, strong community ties, and innovative technology to help specialty coffee producers prepare for the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and navigate demanding market requirements. By equipping producers with tools to ensure compliance and access to international markets, this project is paving the way for a more resilient, equitable coffee industry. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to share the impactful work of CMAS! On November 13 & 14, 2024, Berlin, SAN’s ESG Regional Manager Rolando Zamora, and Fundación Global Nature's Agri-environmental Specialist Daniel Hernández Torres, participated on a transformative event in Berlin dedicated to the crucial role of biodiversity in the global food supply chain. The Biodiversity in Food Supply Chains conference spotlighted innovative approaches and best practices for protecting biodiversity while building sustainable and resilient food systems. During a break-up session, Daniel and Rolando shared with the participants the journey of the Nestlé Responsible Sourcing Program (RSP), key elements for a successful scale up strategy and how renewed commitments on Biodiversity are gaining momentum in the RSP and the agricultural and food systems industries. The event was also an opportunity for our team to engage with other exciting presentations from leading experts in industry, politics, and science, participated in interactive workshops, and network with professionals from across Europe to develop solutions to integrate biodiversity as a key component in our food systems. #ResponsibleSourcing #ESG #Biodiversity #FoodSystems #Agriculture

Collaborating for Regenerative Landscapes: SAN at the CBA Scientific Advisory Board Meeting Last Friday, the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA) convened in London to advance the development of an evaluation framework for regenerative landscapes. This framework will guide the design, management, and evaluation of projects rooted in the principles of the circular bioeconomy. SAN has been an affiliate member of the CBA since its inception and has actively contributed to the SAB through our Executive Director José Joaquín Campos Arce's participation as a founding member. This collaboration represents an invaluable opportunity to support the global transition towards a development model “that puts nature first”, moving away from extractive economic paradigms and fostering sustainable solutions to today’s environmental challenges. We are proud to work alongside leading experts in this space. You can learn more about the SAB members here: https://lnkd.in/eYs6DFuk Below, a group picture from the meeting, where important steps were taken toward a more regenerative future. #CircularBioeconomy #RegenerativeLandscapes #Sustainability #NatureFirstEconomy

At our CBA launch event in London on 21 November, The King met with experts and companies and investors working to accelerate the transition towards nature-positive businesses in sectors such as food, fashion, health, tourism and the built environment. The event saw the CBA announce the launch of two new pioneering Living Labs, to demonstrate how to holistically create regenerative landscapes and nature-positive supply chains in symbiosis with local communities and indigenous people. A regenerative fashion initiative in India will focus on landscape restoration for sustainable cashmere, supported by Brunello Cucinelli, while a nature-based medicinal plant production in Italy, will be supported by Aboca. Other new initiatives encompass educational initiatives in the Amazon and Australia, bio-architecture in Bhutan, as well as continuing work building resilient landscapes, communities and value chains in Africa and Europe. “We applaud the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance for supporting the Living School of the Amazon to help train and prepare the future indigenous governors and stewards of our rainforest territories,” said Uyunkar Domingo Peas Nampichkai, President of the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance. 🌿 Proud Partners in the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance 🌍 On November 21, SAN joined global leaders at St. James's Palace for the launch of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA), hosted by His Majesty King Charles III. Together with over 100 scientists, business leaders, and indigenous representatives, we embraced the call for a "nature-first economy" that places planetary health at the core of economic progress. As a founding partner of the CBA, SAN has actively supported initiatives like the Living Lab for Resilient Coffee Landscapes in Colombia along with our member organization Fundación Natura, demonstrating how regenerative landscapes empower local communities and create equitable, sustainable value chains. Key announcements included new regenerative initiatives in India and Italy and the introduction of the Sir Evelyn de Rothschild Fellowship, a groundbreaking step to reimagine nature finance. 💬 As our Executive Director, José Joaquín Campos Arce, emphasized: "Regenerative landscapes are not just a possibility but a necessity for a sustainable and equitable future." Let’s work together to Re-Nature, Re-Think, and Re-Activate our global systems. 🌱 https://lnkd.in/enHC5Ybq #CBA #NatureFirstEconomy #CircularBioeconomy #Sustainability #RegenerativeLandscapes #Collaboration

🌱 Supporting regenerative agriculture through collaboration: On-farm compost for healthy soils 🌍 Real progress in regenerative agriculture begins in the field, through collaboration and hands-on learning. Recently, our in-house agronomists brought together our valued partners from Nestlé, NGO partners, and our local growers for an engaging training session on on-farm composting, under the Nestlé Responsible Sourcing Program (RSP). 🌾 The day kicked off with insightful presentations from experts in regenerative agriculture Preferred by Nature and composting Compost Systems GmbH, paving the way for an in-field demonstration that brought the composting process to life. This training not only expanded our collective knowledge but also strengthened the relationships that drive sustainable progress. A big thank you to everyone involved! Together, we contribute to build resilient, regenerative farming systems, one step at a time. 🌍💪 #RegenerativeAgriculture #Sustainability Sustainable Agriculture Network Fundación Global Nature
