A U.S. Government-Led Partnership
About us
A U.S. government-led partnership, Power Africa harnesses the collective resources of public and private sectors to double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa. Power Africa’s goal is to add at least 30,000 megawatts (MW) of cleaner and more reliable electricity generation capacity and 60 million connections by 2030. Since 2013, Power Africa has delivered new or improved electricity to more than 200 million people across sub-Saharan Africa and connected nearly 42 million homes and businesses to on- and off-grid energy solutions. Through Power Africa assistance, 152 power projects reached financial close, representing nearly 14,300 megawatts (MW). Of these, 104 are now online and generating nearly 8,000 MW of cleaner and more reliable electricity, helping to mitigate climate change and end energy poverty on the continent. This week, Richard Nelson, Dylan Stearns, Claire Green, and Michael Oppong-Adjei, Esq. (MBA QCL, PMP) had the privilege of engaging with key stakeholders and visiting transformative energy access projects in Senegal. 🤝 Engaging Stakeholders They started the week with productive discussions with SENELECOFFICIELLE, learning about their current priority projects, and Senegal's Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, where they explored Senegal’s bold vision for achieving universal energy access under the recently launched Vision Senegal 2050. 💧 Solar-Powered Water Pumps They visited a rural water pumping station converted from diesel to solar energy through the USAID Scaling-Up Renewable Energy program. This initiative enhances water security, supports farmers with irrigation, and empowers women and children by freeing up time for education and entrepreneurship. 💨 Taiba N'Diaye Wind Farm At the Taiba N'Diaye Wind Power Station, the largest wind farm in West Africa, they saw energy generation innovation in action. Developed by Lekela Power (an Infinity Power company) and powered by Vestas turbines, one of our private sector partners, this 158.7 MW project delivers power to hundreds of thousands of homes and provides economic opportunities to local communities. Learn more about our support for this project: https://lnkd.in/dMhXG8Vm These projects and partnerships reflect the power of collaboration - bringing together governments, like that of the United States, private sector leaders like Lekela and Vestas, and development partners to create lasting change. We’re proud to support these efforts to accelerate access to affordable, and reliable energy across sub-Saharan Africa. 📸 Elle (Kellye) Steindel for USAID/Senegal #Senegal #Dakar #SiteVisits #Taiba #SolarEnergy #WindEnergy #PowerAfricaPartners #EnergyAccess Phoebe Sullivan
