Their initiatives align closely with the objectives set forth by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the role of sports in fostering positive change. Generation Amazing Foundation is renowned for its commitment to utilizing football as a catalyst for positive change, particularly in regions facing socio-economic challenges. By implementing various programs, the foundation aims to address critical social issues such as education, gender equality, health, and community development. During the meeting, Glean emphasized the GFA’s commitment to not only promoting the sport but also harnessing its influence to build stronger communities. He expressed optimism regarding the prospect of introducing Generation Amazing’s successful models in Grenada, which could play a vital role in youth engagement and empowerment through football. Her Game Festival: Empowering Girls and Building Bridges Between Qatar and Morocco On December 14, 2024, the Her Game Festival made its mark in Mansouria, Morocco, continuing the legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ while laying the foundation for future sports events in Morocco, including the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2030 and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. Organized by the Generation Amazing Foundation (GA) in collaboration with LEAD MOROCCO and Tibu Africa, the festival showcased the power of sport to drive social transformation, build confidence, and create lasting opportunities for youth. Serving as a significant milestone in the Qatar-Morocco Years of Culture 2024 program, it highlighted the transformative potential of sports to inspire change and strengthen regional ties. A Legacy of Empowerment and Inclusion This festival was about more than just football. It was a celebration of inclusion, empowerment, and cultural exchange. With the announcement that Morocco will co-host the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2030, the Her Game Festival provided a unique platform to empower youth, foster regional ties, and promote the transformative power of sports in both countries. Through a range of workshops, football matches, and educational sessions, young girls and coaches were equipped with essential life skills, including leadership, teamwork, and resilience. These activities were designed to inspire the next generation of leaders and athletes, while creating an environment where girls could thrive on and off the field. Key Highlights from the Festival Football Tournaments and Silent Game Matches: On the first day, participants took part in an Under-15 girls’ football tournament, alongside innovative Silent Football matches that promoted non-verbal communication and teamwork. Leadership and Coaching Workshops: The second day featured workshops focused on leadership, psychosocial well-being, and inclusive coaching, providing valuable tools for both coaches and young athletes. Inspiration and Mentorship: One of the most memorable moments was a session with Zineb Redouani, a star of the Moroccan National Team and AS FAR Club, who shared her journey as a professional footballer and emphasized resilience and self-belief. Impactful Partnerships: We are grateful for the continued collaboration with Generation Amazing Foundation and TIBU Africa to bring this festival to life. Together, we are not just inspiring change but creating a lasting impact on youth development, confidence-building, and cultural exchange between Qatar and Morocco. At LEAD Morocco, we are committed to empowering marginalized youth through sport and education, providing them with the tools to challenge societal norms and become leaders in their communities. In Barcelona, I had the privilege of participating in UNESCO’s 4th Global Forum Against Racism and Discrimination. As part of a breakout session on understanding and confronting racism in sport, I joined a distinguished panel that included Paralympic athlete Adiaratou Iglesias, former professional basketball player Chatilla van Grinsven, professor David Grenardo, Executive Director of the Fare network Piara Powar, and Raul Rodriguez Porras, Deputy Director-General of Spain’s National Sports Council. Together, we explored the current landscape of racism in sport, strategies for effectively tackling it, and the essential role of governments and sports organizations in fostering a culture of respect and inclusion. While Generation Amazing Foundation doesn’t explicitly focus on combating racism and discrimination, our work inherently addresses inequality by promoting inclusion and understanding. I shared how our initiatives use sport to support community integration. This includes our partnership with KAS Eupen to engage refugee communities, as well as our Youth Festivals, which serve as platforms for cultural exchange and understanding. The session also provided an opportunity to highlight our ongoing collaboration with UNESCO, which leverages sport to promote unity in emergencies. As part of this effort, we’ll be convening an experts’ meeting in Qatar to bring together leaders in sport for development and governance, aiming to drive forward pioneering policy work on governance in sport for development. This past weekend, I attended the Doha Forum, where leaders convened to discuss "The Innovation Imperative." Given my passion for the intersection of #sports, #internationalaffairs, #development, and #economics, I authored an article on my website, Goal Diplomacy, titled “Doha Forum Features Panel on Sports and Sustainability: Key Takeaways and Analysis”. A standout session, “Sport as a Force for Sustainable Development in the #MENA Region”, was moderated by Haneen Kh, Lead Arabic Consultant at the The International Platform on Sport and Development. The panel began with Ahmed Saad Al-Rumaihi, Manager of the Humanitarian Aid Department at the Qatar Fund for Development, sharing powerful insights on leveraging sports to heal communities affected by conflict. Nasser Al-Khori, Executive Director of the Generation Amazing Foundation, followed with insights into how tailored interventions have positively impacted over 1 million marginalized youth. FATIMA-AZZAHRA BENFARES, Director of LEAD MOROCCO, emphasized the role of sports in fostering #leadership skills and keeping students engaged in education, highlighting its potential to cultivate future empathetic and capable leaders. Decius Hikabwa Chipande PhD, Head of the African Union Sports Council, underscored the importance of government collaboration in embedding sports development into national policies to ensure sustainability. Finally, Dr Ben Farai Sanders, Executive Director of the International Platform on Sport and Development, advocated for localized approaches and multilingual resources to empower communities effectively, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility. This session reinforced my belief that sports can truly serve as a vehicle for promoting sustainable community development, particularly in marginalized communities. Last week in New York City, we celebrated the promising collaboration between Kick4Life F.C. and Wrexham AFC and once again witnessed the transformative power of football in action. From the friendly match set against the NYC skyline to a panel discussion on gender equality & football for good which included GA coach Michael Richardson and Radha Balani, it was an opportunity to support discussions around sport for development objectives. At the Kick4Life Annual Gala Dinner, I was honoured to present the Student-Athlete of the Year Award and celebrate the lives transformed by Kick4Life’s impactful work. Seeing the impact of their work up close—the lives changed, the futures reimagined—was profoundly inspiring. The partnership between Kick4Life and Wrexham, rooted in the connections formed at the Generation Amazing Foundation Festival 22 held alongside the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™️, continues to grow in meaningful ways. I’m excited about what’s next: building capacity in Sport for Development and fostering youth exchanges in Lesotho, Wrexahm and Doha. Together, we’re making strides toward stronger communities and brighter futures through sport.
