Q for the festive season, for one to ponder about from the sofa (for those still able to work their thumbs on keyboards and who enjoy the banter of a good, healthy exchange of thoughts): "When is Facilities Management (FM) truly FM?" In recent weeks, I have been challenged by some of those who believe FM is wholly intertwined only with Workplace issues. Well, apart from all the residential, retail, industrial, infrastructure, military, academic, Government agency, logistics, and other such stuff, that is... And then, what about those who deliver related services in the built environment, including Asset Management, Property Management, Community Management, and Real Estate? For all these activities (and many more) they all interface with, and are related to, FM, surely? Asking for a friend...

On Wednesday 8th May, please take a minute of your time to thank an "invisible" person for what they do: The unsung heroes of Facilities Management. If he or she weren't doing their job tomorrow (as on any day, tbh), simple but important things would just not get done. The cleaner, receptionist, cook, AC maintainer, housekeeper, stone polisher, lifeguard, driver, gardener, engineer, supervisor and so many, many more: whatever their specialism, together they all count towards Integrated FM... So, please let "Inspire, integrate and innovate" start with YOU and join the celebrations on 8th May by saying "Thank you" to someone you don't really know but on whom you rely on to live your lifestyle, or do your work.
