Thanks for your ongoing support and partnership with the MAG program Susan❤️
We had the pleasure of hosting Brock University Masters of Gerontology program (MAG) students for their Death and Dying course. We were able to share our Bereavement programs that we offer, as well as a tour of our facility. The students enthusiasm, curiosity, and thoughtful questions made the visit truly enjoyable and meaningful for all of us. It is always inspiring to engage with bright, motivated individuals who are eager to learn and grow. We were grateful to have our Therapy Tails team join us today to make the day complete with pets and licks.

Another MAG Graduate Ashely Guay (Class of 2021) doing AMAZING work to improve the lives of older adults living in long term care. Making us proud Ashley ❤️
In February of this year my clinical team at work approached me and asked me to take on the palliative care program lead role at Humber Meadows Long Term Care Home — today, just 9 months later I had the absolute honour to stand with Liza Reantaso as her BPSO co-lead and the palliative care program lead, to present at the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) BPSO Global Symposium. As a recreational therapist, getting to present at a global nursing symposium to demonstrate our roles and abilities in best practice guidelines was truly surreal. Getting to show first hand how far an interdisciplinary approach can take you. My passion for palliative care grows day by day, a passion I’m so thankful to have discovered through the Master of Applied Gerontology program. In such a short time our home has celebrated so many successes, and it was so exciting getting to share them others to take to their practices too. Forever thankful for our team for trusting me in a role I didn’t know I could have, embracing my endless passion and being champions that truly help make all my crazy ideas actually come to life.

My work at Niagara Health this summer has been both a deeply personal and incredibly rewarding experience. As a Cultural Diversity and Health Equity Quality Improvement Support, I’ve been able to not only learn valuable skills but also give back to the community which means so much to me. One of the most fulfilling parts of my role has been conducting a comprehensive environmental scan to identify the resources, gaps, and barriers that affect access to the Geriatric Assessment Program, specifically for marginalized older adults. By gathering data on the Niagara region’s older adult population and speaking directly with members of ethnocultural communities within the Niagara region, I’ve been able to develop evidence-based recommendations aimed at addressing cultural and language barriers that impact access to care. The results of this work have been captured in a detailed report that outlines both the current state of the Geriatric Assessment Program and actionable steps to improve access and health outcomes for BIPOC older adults in the Niagara region. This project aims to set the stage for future health equity initiatives, and I feel grateful and energized by the opportunity to contribute to meaningful, lasting change. I’m excited to see where these efforts will lead and am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such impactful work.
