While its peers and competitors are using sophisticated strategies to secure their place in emerging clean industries, Canada’s approach to investing in its economic future has been more fragmented. Without an overarching strategy to guide investments, it risks wasteful spending and missed economic opportunities. Co-written with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, How to Prioritize Strategic Projects for Better Net-Zero Industrial Policy presents a high-level framework to address this challenge. It outlines five critical factors to help governments identify and prioritize projects with the greatest potential to build sustainable industries and secure Canada’s long-term competitiveness in the global economy. 📘 Learn more about the framework (link in the comment below 👇) To delve deeper into the report's findings and explore how Canada can position itself strategically, join our upcoming webinar on Dec 16, featuring report authors Heather Exner-Pirot, Senior Fellow, Macdonald-Laurier Institute and Bentley Allan, Transition Pathway Principal at the The Transition Accelerator/ L’Accélérateur de transition. 📅 Register for the webinar (link in the comment below 👇)

The creation of hydrogen hubs and corridors will be key to unlocking the potential of Canada’s hydrogen economy. Released in April, this report shows how a regional hub could tap into existing infrastructure and energy resources to help build Saskatchewan’s low-carbon economy: https://lnkd.in/gfhH797P Pair that report with the Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub’s webinar on our Minimum Viable Corridor framework for an informative look at how to move past pilots to establish an economically self-sustaining hydrogen value-chain in Canada: https://lnkd.in/eCrqDJ4d TA Year in Review: To mark the new year, we’re looking at the publications, events, and conversations that defined 2024 for the Transition Accelerator.

Alberta’s deregulated, predominantly private electricity system is a unique model in Canada. This market-based approach helped Alberta become a national leader in deploying low-cost renewables, but can it deliver the affordable, reliable, carbon-neutral electricity we need? https://lnkd.in/eph2ENCZ We asked Blake Shaffer (Associate Professor, University of Calgary), Leonard Kula (Vice President of Policy—Eastern Canada and Utility Affairs, Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA)), and Edgardo Sepulveda (Independent Economist, Telecoms and Electricity) for their views in a spirited discussion about what Canada can learn from Alberta’s approach.
