The ABSL Forum in Porto brought together business leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss the future of the business services sector on the global map, its competitiveness and resilience. The message was clear: we are at a crossroads, and how we act today will determine the sector’s trajectory for the next decade. What are the key findings from these two inspirations-fueled days? See them below ⬇️ 🌍 #Europe cannot afford to act in isolation. The future lies in partnerships, both within and outside the continent. At the same time, regional resilience is key. With geopolitical tensions rising, investors are prioritizing reliable jurisdictions and stable ecosystems. Europe must step up with a unified voice, offering both certainty and innovation. 🌍 #Talent is key. As fertility rates decline and the talent pool shrinks, attracting, retaining, and upskilling people has never been more critical. Europe remains a magnet for talent worldwide due to its stability, but we must shift towards project-based and outcome-focused teaching to prepare a workforce ready to adapt, as well as invest in lifelong learning for both technical and soft skills, ensuring teams are agile and future-proof. 🌍 #Technology, particularly AI, is transforming the sector. While some fear it will reduce demand for traditional services, the consensus is that AI is an enabler, not a replacement. It’s about creating new roles, improving decision-making, and unlocking opportunities we couldn’t imagine before. 🌍 #Transformation is a strategic imperative for the business services sector. As global, social and technological disruption accelerates, organizations must focus on evolving their value propositions. Encouraging a mindset of continuous reinvention by embracing change as an opportunity rather than a risk. 🌍 #Sustainability is no longer optional. It’s a business strategy. The sector must embrace #ESG as a core driver of innovation and long-term value creation, think of ESG as an investment, not a cost, and build sustainable practices into every process, showing that Europe is committed to a better future. The Forum underscored the need for leaders to be proactive, vocal, and united: ➡️ Advocate for smarter regulations that support innovation while protecting employees. ➡️ Strengthen cross-border collaboration to reduce fragmentation and unleash Europe’s collective potential. ➡️ Rethink location strategies to reflect a network of hubs, ensuring agility and proximity to markets. By embracing technology, sustainability, and talent, and by forging global partnerships, we can ensure that Europe remains a leader on the global stage. It’s not just about growth, it’s about purpose. Last week in Milan, we brought together over 30 investors and founders to chart the future of Cleantech for Italy and begin shaping our 2025 work plan. It was inspiring to witness the Italian cleantech community's dedication to driving industrial leadership and competitiveness. Here are some key insights from our discussion: 💰 Italy needs more blended finance instruments to accelerate the #industrialization of late-stage scaleups. These include but are not limited to grants and incentives. Initiatives such as Breakthrough Energy Catalyst demonstrate how private and public capital can work hand in hand to support critical technology demonstrations. 🏦 #Bankability is pivotal for unlocking the capital flows needed to scale cleantech champions. Public #guarantees and sector-specific #offtaking frameworks are essential, especially in a country like Italy, with its robust industrial base. However, we must enhance the dialogue between established companies and scaleups to drive cleantech #adoption. ⚖️ Public #procurement should embrace openness and include emerging technologies with national and European strategic relevance. These solutions are not only competitive with current alternatives but can also spur job creation and de-risk supply chains. 🧪 #Technology #transfer remains critical to make sure that the research efforts carried out by public and private organizations are translated into promising technologies and viable business opportunities. Simplifying and harmonizing existing frameworks is the first, crucial step to simplify this process. 🚛 #Trade and #competition policy is key to ensuring European innovators have a level playing field. Strengthening EU partnerships and shifting towards an "EU in the world" approach will create better market conditions for cleantech innovations globally. Looking forward to taking these insights forward as we shape the next steps for Cleantech for Italy! The momentum is building and, with continued collaboration, we can turn these #ambitions into #action. Tomorrow, the inaugural Global Nature Positive Summit 2024 in Sydney, Australia, begins. It’s an exciting and important opportunity to identify real, practical action to drive investment and collaboration towards a nature-positive world. It’s easy to be skeptical about global summits. They are often derided as ‘talk-shops’, where a lot gets said, but little gets done. In the case of #nature, the bar is especially high. As we have covered in our Nature Positive Series, the challenges to investing in nature are significant. But as we have also shown collaboration is vital. It will not be possible to tackle the complexities of nature, nor fully realize the opportunities in nature-positivity, without bringing together stakeholders from across society – from First Nations leaders and experts to scientists and ecologists, from financiers to tech entrepreneurs, from media to all levels of government. From the Summit, BWD Strategic will be looking out for: • Genuine engagement with the challenges of investing in nature. Market players need to know their concerns are heard and understood, and advocates for nature need to work to derisk and optimize their offerings. • Progress towards publicly accessible nature datasets, and towards trusted, consistent, and transparent standards for the collection and analysis of nature data. Trusted data is a key enabler to greater investment in nature. • Genuine, far-reaching efforts to partner with First Nations experts on the way Australia will value nature. Nature-positivity is a profoundly new opportunity for Australia’s relationship with its First Nations people – empowering them to shape the natural capital economy, and recognising the enduring relevance of Traditional Knowledge to a sustainable human future. • Government decisions that cement policy certainty, and strengthen market incentives for nature-positive investment. Innovation is costly, and impossible without a clear and reliable policy context. • The showcasing of real-life, ROI-positive nature-based solutions – ones that prove that investment in nature-positivity is both commercially viable and possible today. We look forward to the Summit’s outcomes and wish the participants and organizers the very best for a profitable, meaningful, and impactful three days. #NbS #Australia #TNFD #sustainability

You can check out the companies here --> https://lnkd.in/g6dhz7j5 These companies are spearheading Australian climate solutions that are gaining global attention. Over a busy week, founders with customers, investors, mentors, and partners on an international stage, often over a delicious croissant! A huge thank you to our wonderful partners at the Queensland Government, without whom this mission would not be possible. Some takeaways: 🏃♀️ The EU has world-leading climate policy and regulation, such as CBAM, and France2030, which are driving investment into climate tech companies and accelerating the uptake of their solutions by customers. The imperative to adopt sustainable practices and technologies has never been more pressing. 🏆 In this landscape, Australian climate tech companies are positioning themselves as global climate tech leaders and there is strong customer demand 🔥 There has never been a better time for climate tech companies to consider setting up business in the EU, and there is a lot of support for founders when they are doing so. Highlights of the trip included (among many!): ✅ Hosting our very own sold out Australian Climate Tech Pitch Night 🎤 Exhibiting and attending Hello Tomorrow Global Summit 🥐 Lunch with partners near the Eiffel Tower 🇫🇷 Meetup with Techstars Sustainability Paris and Choose Paris Region This Paris trade mission was a pivotal opportunity for the 12 attending companies: the chance to showcase their solutions to a global audience, foster essential connections, and explore setting up business in the EU by connecting into a global hub of climate action. Thanks again to Trade and Investment Queensland, Queensland Chief Entrepreneur and the Queensland Government for supporting this mission. Big thanks also to Business France, Christelle Damiens, Stuart Dullard at Ashurst and Pippa Gawley at Zero Carbon Capital for invaluable pre-trip mentoring.
